Workplace Aggressive Behaviors
We study all aspects of aggressive social interactions within work environments. This includes everything from simple rudeness to more intense forms of aggression like bullying and workplace violence. Research includes examining the effects of aggressive interactions on employees, causes of aggression within workplaces, and factors that can mitigate or reduce negative effects of experienced aggression by employees.
Workplace Decision Biases and Fairness
Employees, especially in managerial roles, have to make complex decisions in their jobs. This includes decisions on hiring and promotion, performance evaluation, and a variety of other decisions. Our lab studies factors that can lead to poor decision making, resulting in unfair outcomes for employeees.
Workplace Discrimination
Related to both of the interests above, one common source of both unfairness and aggression within organizations is discriminatory behavior. This lab examines causes of demographic based biases, how those biases lead to discriminatory behaviors and decisions, and how those decisions affect employee and organizational outcomes.
Work-Nonwork Interface
Over our lifespan, we spend a lot of time working. But employee is not the only role we hold in life. We are also parents, offspring, friends, teammates, students, etc. What happens when our responsibilities to our job and these other roles are in conflict with each other? What can we do about it? This lab examines questions related to work-nonwork balance and conflict.
Fairness and Well-Being
More generally, this lab's focus is on fairness and well-being within organizations. While most projects fall within the scope of the interests above, Other questions related to fairness and well-being are also examined.
