JAMES SPANN

James Spann has served as the chief meteorologist for the ABC TV affiliate in Birmingham for 26 years and has doing weather on television since 1978. He is an American Meteorological Society Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.


James has received the two highest awards in the nation for a broadcast meteorologist.... "Broadcaster of the Year" from the National Weather Association, and the American Meteorological Society "Award for Broadcast Meteorology".


James has earned multiple Emmy awards over the years, and was elected to the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle, representing outstanding achievement spanning at least 25 years in the broadcast industry with a proven record of mentoring and community involvement.

GRACE ANELLO

WAAY 31 Meteorologist Grace Anello is an Atlanta native and a proud graduate of Mississippi State University. Grace's interest in weather stems from the thermodynamic, physics, and calculus-based nature of the field. She concentrates her career on supercell and lightning formation as well as the public's perception of information during severe weather. She spends her time at WAAY 31 forecasting and informing the public with her Anello Answers It- weather explainer segment. She also spends a great deal of her time reading to elementary school students all over Alabama and Tennessee encouraging their excitement in the atmosphere and sharing severe weather safety tips with them. Grace was also the 2022 Student Member of the AMS Board of Broadcast Meteorology. In her spare time, she loves reading, making pasta, and petting as many dogs as possible.

CARSON MEREDITH

Carson is the Morning Meteorologist at WAAY 31 in Huntsville. Born and raised in Kentucky, Carson graduated from Western Kentucky University (WKU) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. Carson moved to North Alabama to start his broadcasting career at WAAY 31 in 2019. Before working in Huntsville, Carson had the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the weather industry through a broadcast internship with WBKO in Bowling Green, Kentucky, as well as two semesters as a Student Volunteer with the National Weather Service offices in Louisville and Nashville. When Carson is not tracking storms, he loves to travel or spend time with family and friends. Carson loves getting to know people, so feel free to reach out! 

KRISTOPHER WHITE

Kristopher White is the Applications Integration Meteorologist (AIM) at the Huntsville National Weather Service (NWS) Office, and serves as both a Senior Forecaster and a liaison between the NWS and the NASA SPoRT program.  Mr. White began his career 20 years ago as a meteorologist at the Reagan Missile Test Site on Kwajalein where he was a Lead Mission Meteorologist for several missile tests.  He accepted his first position in the NWS three years later in Duluth, MN.  After about a year as an Intern in Duluth, Mr. White was promoted to Journeyman Forecast at the Huntsville, AL NWS Office in May 2007, and then into the Senior Forecaster and AIM positions a few years later.  He has helped to develop, evaluate, and transition numerous experimental products for NWS offices and other groups and agencies across the U.S. from NASA SPoRT over his more than 11 year tenure as the AIM.  

TODD McKINNEY

Todd McKinney is a 1st year graduate student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. His research focuses include balloon platforms, air quality, and trajectory modeling. In November and December of 2022, he traveled to Antarctica to test new micro super pressure balloon technologies. He hopes to graduate UAH with a master's and PhD degree in the near future. 

CASEY CALAMAIO

Casey Calamaio is a Research Engineer at the University of Alabama in Huntsville's Rotorcraft Systems Engineering and Simulation Center (UAH/RSESC). Casey's background is in geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing from satellite and airborne platforms for environmental monitoring and disaster response. Outside of his work at UAH, Casey volunteers as the Alabama Director of UAS Operations in the Civil Air Patrol supporting a growing search and rescue UAS program and serving as a UAS Mission Pilot for the Southeast Region.
