What is the UAH AMS/NWA Chapter?
Welcome to the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Student Chapter of The American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association! We are a student-led organization whose purpose is to exemplify the missions of the AMS and NWA by bringing students together to advance the understanding, application, and outreach of meteorology for society. Located in North Alabama, home of the 4th largest research park in the world, our chapter is home to students practicing all aspects of atmospheric and earth science including the education of the local community, the research of a vast number of subjects, and the organization of community events. Each year, our chapter proudly hosts Huntsville’s Rocket City Weather Fest, a convention that invites well-known meteorologists to Huntsville in an effort to teach all members of the community severe weather safety tips and basic weather knowledge. Students from our chapter have the year-round opportunity to conduct research with other scientists and forecasters from NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, the local NOAA/NWS office, esteemed faculty, and their peers. While taking a break from conducting research, our chapter also enjoys planning picnics, professional workshops, and many other activities that allow for our members to grow as a family. For more information, be sure to reach us through our email, ams@uah.edu. Thank you!
