INJURY REPORTING AND PROTOCOL
At the start of each season, coaches and student athletes are educated regarding the proper procedure for notifying the athletic trainer of any injuries sustained during practices or games as well as appropriate use of the athletic training room. Student athletes are expected to report all sports related injuries to an athletic trainer at the time of injury.
Injuries of an athletic nature, occurring during a school-sponsored activity (on or off campus), must be reported to the athletic trainer. The athletic trainer will evaluate the injury and based upon the evaluation determine what the most appropriate course of care is for that student athlete. In most cases, injuries are minor and the student athlete will be treated by the athletic trainer at the school. If an injury is more extensive or requires further medical evaluation, the student athlete's parent/guardian will be contacted by the athletic trainer. Injury evaluations, treatments, rehabs, and follow ups will be documented on Healthy Roster for you to view.
The decision for a student athlete to return to athletic participation will be determined by the athletic trainer. In the event that additional treatment was required by a physician, the physician and athletic trainer must both determine that the student athlete is safe to return to athletic participation. The student athlete is expected to give the athletic trainer a note from the attending healthcare provider stating that they are safe to return to athletic participation. The athletic trainer is the individual who makes the final decision regarding the student athlete's return to athletic activity.
If you are concerned about an injury that your child suffered during athletics, Please call or email the athletic trainer so we are aware of this injury and can further assist you and your student-athlete.
It is always your right as a parent to seek further medical care for your child if you have any doubts as to the seriousness of their injury. Anytime you take your child to a healthcare provider for an athletic injury we ask that the student athlete return with a doctor’s note stating return to play guidelines/expectations for us to appropriately treat your child.
YOUR STUDENT ATHLETE MAY NOT RETURN TO PLAY WITHOUT A WRITTEN NOTE.
