Class newsletter:
September 13th
Hello Families,
While we continue to have fun getting to know one another, we have settled pretty seamlessly into our regular routine. Our math and phonics transitions are already quite effortless and students have really enjoyed this grade level instructional time with familiar faces in other 2/ 3 classes.
Math kicked off to a great start this week with students now working in grade level groups. All students are getting both main lesson and math menu in these groups. Second graders in our class reviewed addition strategies like making a friendly ten then counting on and using doubles to help solve addition problems.
Third grade phonics this week consisted of reviewing digraphs, blends and the flsz doubling rule.
Class Highlights:
Having Mr. Finch as a sub- he is so well loved!
ECO! Ask your child about our outside classroom and what they want to add to our space
Learning the math and literacy menu routines
Ms. Burroughs’ Birthday- I got so spoiled with beautiful cards from all and a special treat from Ms. Danielle
Comfy Cozy Movie Day! A celebration of two filled chip cups while I was out
Fabulous Friday bracelet making
Our First tech day with Arlyn.
Things to Remember:
Many students have been forgetting water bottles. Please remember to send a water bottle with your child every day. If it is easier for your child, then water bottles are welcome to just stay at school and I can wash them.
Upcoming:
Starting next week we will begin our baseline assessments. We will begin with both the iready math diagnostic and the iready reading diagnostic. These are both long assessments which will take us multiple sessions to complete. We understand that this assessment window will feel hard for many and plan to incorporate as many movement and outside breaks as possible.
Mrs. Drown and I plan to team up as ECO buddies starting next week. Moving forward, we will do ECO together! This will create a fun opportunity for our classes to collaborate and learn together. Our plan is to eventually assign buddies so that every student in our class in paired with a student in Ms. Drown’s class. Buddies will work together on various ECO activities and assignments.
I look forward to my first full week with students next week! Have a great weekend! 🙂

Hello Families,
Wow! I can’t believe how fast the first week of school flew by. I for one feel like I just competed in the olympic triathlon. I have noticed many students whose energy levels have also slowly depleted throughout the course of the week. This is completely normal. It takes time for us all to remember the routines of school and how to balance school with home, especially when we have weather that very much still feels like summer. I myself have been guilty of bedtimes that stretch a little too far and mornings that feel like a mad dash to get to where we have to be on time. That being said, I would encourage you to create some routines at home (if you haven’t already) that help foster a full night’s sleep. We are working so hard here at school and need all the energy we can get!
I have been blown away by the warm embrace this group of students have given me this week! We had some real conversations about first day feelings, where I was honest about feeling nervous about being in a new school where I know few. These kiddos have stepped up! They gave me a tour of the building and have been teaching me all the intricacies of EMES. I could not have asked for a better group!
Our focus throughout the week has been getting to know each other. We have done many getting to know you activities and have been working on getting to know our classroom as well. This work is far from done and will continue for the next month. In Red folders this week is a home project that I am hoping you can assist your child with. Please look over the Brown Bag Project instructions and assist your child with gathering their items that will help teach us about them.
Over the course of the next few weeks, we will shift into more of our regular daily schedule. Starting next week, we will start transitioning for phonics. This will be a 30 minute block where students get grade specific instruction. I will keep the third graders for phonics and the second graders will travel to Mrs. Fitch or Mrs. Bevins. The following week we will start transitioning for math. Similarly, this will be time for all students to have grade alike instruction. For math, I will keep the second graders while the third graders travel to Mrs. Fitch and Mrs. G for instruction.
If you have not yet, please check out our class website for important information. Here I have posted our schedule, important dates, newsletters and our photo story. This will be a great resource throughout the year. One thing on our site that I want to draw your attention to is the upcoming dates section. This will be updated regularly. Coming up next week I have an absence. I will be absent next Thursday returning on the following Tuesday. One of my brothers is getting married in Vancouver and my family will be traveling to join the celebration. I understand that this is a very hard time for students to have their teacher away. Please know your child might need a little extra support at home during this time.
Moving forward you should expect either a weekly or biweekly newsletter from me. I will send these out on Fridays. These will recap our week and give information about the following week as well. I will not be sending a newsletter next week due to my absence.
I want to encourage you all to reach out to me as much as you need to. We are partners in your child’s education and I am always willing to work with you to problem solve! I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend (NO SCHOOL Monday for Labor Day!). I can’t wait to get back to our fun learning next week.
Best,
Ainsley
