About our Class:
This will be my first year teaching a multigrade class. Reading and writing will both be taught multigrade using a workshop model. We will also conduct our science and global citizenship explorations as a multigrade class. I am excited for the opportunity for students to get grade specific instruction in both math and phonics. This will mean that all students will travel to a different classroom for one part of their day for instruction by an additional teacher.
We use a phonics program called Fundations (word work/handwriting). We will do this four days a week in grade-level specific groups. Mrs. Bevins and Mrs. Fitch will each teach a group of second graders for Fundations. Third Graders will stay with me for their phonics instruction.
Math will be grade-level specific five days a week. I will teach the second graders in our class math while the third graders travel to Mrs. Fitch and Mrs. Gariboldi. The math block will be broken up into two segments: whole-group and menu/intervention time. For mathematics, we use a program called iReady Math. We follow this program for whole group instruction and use the computer part of it for personalized, online lessons and diagnostic assessments. The students take the assessment three times a year and we monitor growth through this data.
About me:
I am excited to embark on my tenth year of teaching and first year of teaching at EMES. I started my career at Barre Town Elementary School teaching kindergarten and first grade. After teaching there for eight years, I left to have a baby and spend time with my family. Last year, I came back to teaching at Calais Elementary School as a second grade teacher. I loved getting back to my career and being able to join this amazing district. This year I am excited to join yet another great community!
I live in Middlesex with my husband, Silas, our sons, Knox (age 8... almost 9!) and Hans (age 2) and our dog, Bromley. In my free time I love to read, garden and explore. I love getting outside as much as possible and can't wait for some fun outdoor ECO explorations during this school year!
