This project came into fruition because of a passion for vinyl. Vinyl is a unique physical, visual, and auditory experience that is hard to replicate, or even find a substitute for. When away from actual records/record players, fans of vinyl don't have the ability to recreate that vinyl experience. Additionally, vinyl is an expensive hobby.Â
Our goal with Vinyl VR is to provide our users with an accurate and immersive vinyl experience, allowing them to play and listen to vinyl records without needing to make any costly investments.
Among the many extended reality options, why did we choose virtual reality for our application?
VR is fully immersive.
Using VR, we can imitate the physicality of grabbing/moving various parts of the vinyl interface, including moving around the speakers for more dynamic sound staging.
VR is space efficient.
Another sub-issue not mentioned in our motivation to create this app is space constraints. Vinyl records and record players can end up taking a lot of space, and for most people who don't have dedicated rooms/areas for vinyl, this can be a turn off to trying vinyl. With virtual reality, we only need digital libraries--this eliminates the need or the concern for large physical collections of music.
