Our biggest focus for this app was the vinyl and the listening experience. Although we received suggestions during initial user requirement collection for things like mini-games/additional features to reduce a sense of boredom, we believe vinyl can already provide an immersive experience, and is best experienced without any distraction. Our initial prototype was designed with this in mind- a quiet, closed room with the vinyl set-up as the centerpiece of our VR application.
One of the biggest aspects we determined for the vinyl experience is the motion of the arm/needle to the platter. In our initial prototype, the user is able to watch the needle move from rest to the vinyl record on the turntable. As the music plays, the record spins, and the needle moves to track with the length of the song. With the power of VR, we implemented some methods that aren't normally available in real-time: when users pause the music, the needle will move off the record back to rest, but when they play the music again, the needle will move right to it's previous location at pause, and start the music right where they left off.
