These questions were asked to survey participants in order to gather information about how potential users feel about Parkinson's Disease and our website. Out of 36 respondents 61.1% were male, and 36.1% were female. The majority of the survey participants (66.7%) were 18-25 years old, and the remaining 33% were above that age range.
Most respondents are not worried about Parkinson’s Disease. Initially this seems like it could be due to the majority of survey participants being only 18-25 years old, as many people won't have to worry about the disease until they are older. In reality, even the older survey participants responded that they are not significantly worried about Parkinson's Disease. In reality the only factor that appears to make people worry about the disease is a family history of Parkinson's Disease. All individuals that were very worried about PD (4 or 5 out of 5) had a family history of PD. This data shows that we will need to work hard to raise awareness for the disease as the majority of people do not worry about it.
The majority of respondents replied that they would not trust the site's diagnosis. This could be at least partially do the wording of the question. The way the question is phrased does not mention the reliability of Verbal Health, and most people wouldn't trust information from some website that they haven't heard of. One potential way to address this concern would be partnering with a website that already has a strong reputation. In this scenario people would be significantly more trusting of the information the site provides because of the reputation. Another way we worked to address this concern is by making it clear that a Verbal Health score is not a diagnosis, and only tells users if they are at risk. If a user is found to be at risk they are encouraged to contact their doctor to assess the situation.
The majority of respondents want to spend less than 10 minutes on the site, with 39% only wanting to spend less than five minutes. Because of this result we wanted to ensure that using the site is a very quick process. Using the site only takes one to two minutes to complete a Verbal Health test, which we consider to be a success for this goal.
The consensus of this survey was that most people wouldn't want to use the site more than once a year. Because of this result we wanted to ensure that the site was easy to use. This way users who do not use the site regularly would not need to re-learn a bunch of features. Another reason that ease of use is very important is a significant portion of our user base would be individuals who are fairly old, and may not have experience with computers. We achieved this by making the UI very simple, and keeping the screen fairly empty. Our user evaluations showed that 100% of participants found the site to be easy to use, and the UI easy to understand. This is a significant because it shows that this goal was achieved.
This response shows that the majority of users would not want to make an account on the site. It appears that they are concerned about their speech data being secure, and they don't want it to be tracked over time. Because of this result user accounts are not a feature of the site.
