A hallmark of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentisty's Cirriculum is the Personalized Instructional Program (P.I.P.) where students are encouraged to learn more about a specific topic of their choosing, whilst satisfying several of Dugoni's competency statements. Students must complete at least one PIP project but are not limited to a number. Students are allowed to work independently or in groups up to 5 people.
Here is one of the completed PIP projects that I completed along with 4 of my classmates, Jordan Belden, Eric Le, Daniel Mikel, and Phil Miller, PhD. The 5 of us wanted to dive deeper into the numerous transportation optoins that are available in the Bay Area to better serve our vastly diverse patient population. Moreover, we wanted to use this project as an exposé of Dugoni's current and potential reach to the Bay Area.
Along with classmates Jeff Stoker & Mandy Chen, we led the effort of organizing and managing the 26th Annual Senior Smiles Event. The event hosted 123 local seniors that were offered an array of free medical, pharmaceutcal, and dental services. Dugoni hosted 4 partnering schools: University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy, Touro School of Pharmacy, University of the Pacific School of Physical Therapy, and University of the Pacific School of Audiology to deliver the various services. Following the event, Jeff, Mandy and myself presented at the 2019 and 2020 OKU Excellence Day for Community Service with analyzed data from our event, while providing data-driven recommendations for improvements.
