For this assignment, I used Linda MacRae-Campbell's (1991) Guidelines for Change to design a concrete, detailed plan for change within my school district. The presentation below is developed to give stakeholders in the school an overview of the steps needed to create a new summer program for elementary school students.
The main goal of initiating this program into the schools is to reduce the achievement gap and offer an equitable program to all learners. By creating a program for students to attend during the summer months, it will help students who need additional assistance to meet grade level learning standards. By using the assessment data from the Spring MAP testing, teachers will be able to customize the summer learning to benefit each student to where their learning level is at. The summer program will also be very beneficial to students who do not have internet access or access to a library during the summer months; and it will help working parents to find a safe and educational place for their children to be during the working hours. For ELL students, the additional educational programs will help them continue their learning of the English language through all twelve months of the year. With the pandemic still affecting our student learners, our district is also looking at opportunities to engage the students over the summer and help prevent the "Summer Slide". This seven minute presentation is a way for the district administration to present the ideas to the elementary schools and collect feedback on whether it will work in their neighborhoods. Additionally, we would ask the school leaders to go back to their communities to collect interest levels from parents.
Another reason I like this plan, is that it is a perfect opportunity for teachers to learn new technologies and see how to incorporate it into their lessons.

For this artifact, we were able to select a strategic change that we wanted to work on and hopefully see fulfilled at some point. Once again, the pandemic played a role in my decision. With so many students feeling like they slipped back in their learning, or did not advance as much as they hoped this year, I based my project on creating a summer learning plan for a school. In order for it to be fulfilled, a lot of different people need to come together to work on a solution - school administrators, teachers, school board members, parents and students. I think it is an important concept to help meet all learners at the level they are at and help them to advance. I look forward to refining this plan and putting it into place in the future.
