For Facilitators

The purpose of this WebQuest is to assist faculty in our Online Course Design program to create measurable learning objectives that will meet Quality Matters Standard 2.

The backbone of any course, face-to-face or online, are the learning objectives that the students will learn. These goals drive the course creation process to ensure that all content and activities support the mission of the course. Without knowing how to create useful learning objectives, it could cause the quality of the course to decrease drastically.

This WebQuest is intended for all fully-online and hybrid faculty teaching at our university. Since all faculty are required to go through the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric Workshop, this activity serves as an extension to the workshop to aid faculty in creating quality courses.

• Prior teaching experience is recommended, but not required.
• Completion of the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) Workshop is required.

Upon completion of this WebQuest, the learner will be able to:

• Recognize the importance of having measurable learning objectives.
• Create and revise their learning objectives to make them measurable.
• Apply Bloom's Taxonomy to enhance their learning objectives.

Successful completion of this WebQuest will meet the following standards:

Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric

• Learning Objectives Standard 2.1: The course learning objectives, or course/program competencies, describe outcomes that are measurable.

• Introduction: Overview and Introduction to Learning Objectives.
• Task: Provides an outline of activities that learners will complete.
• Process: Provides instructions and attachments for each of the tasks.
• Evaluation: Provides an evaluation rubric and additional information on how their work will be graded.
• Conclusion: Provides an opportunity for self-reflection on the topics covered and future implementation.

Learners will create four learning objectives for a course they are teaching. These objectives will be assessed using the provided rubric.
