TUTORING & ACADEMIC SUPPORT CENTER

Founded in Fall 2020, the Myers-JHG Tutoring and Academic Support Center was funded through the generous support of the Mike A. Myers Foundation and the Johanniter Humanitarian Group of Texas. This donation supports the center in offering free tutoring and academic support services to undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

Mike Myers’ philanthropic efforts extend over 50 years having established his Foundation at the age of 29. He has consistently made significant contributions, focusing in large part on education. He generously donated to Parkland’s Ambulatory Surgery Center and the “I Stand for Parkland” campaign, for which the sky bridge bears his name. Myers was recognized as Distinguished Alumnus at Tarleton State University in 1978, inducted into the Tarleton Ring of Honor in 2004 and received the All-Purple Award in 2005. He was recognized as DFW “Entrepreneur of the Year," Distinguished Alumnus at the University of Texas at Austin, and Distinguished Alumnus at the UT College of Business having been inducted into their Hall of Fame. Myers received the Presidential Citation Award from UT Austin and the Charles Sprague Community Service Award from UT Southwestern Medical School.

JHG Texas is a non-profit humanitarian organization sponsored by Dallas based Knights of the Order of St John, known as “Johanniter” in the German language. The organization is the protestant branch of the Knights Hospitaller that originated with the founding of the first Christian hospital in Jerusalem in 1099. Initially committed to serving sick and poor pilgrims to the Holy Land over 900 years ago, the Johanniter have expanded their operations and fundraising to support various charities in the community. Supporting TWU nursing students is one way to continue to serve the sick by educating nurses to earn a BSN and to help combat the nursing shortage that many areas face today.

According to Henry Fink, President of JHG Texas, “We are very impressed with the excellence of the nursing studies curriculum and the high quality group culture of the students and staff at TWU’s College of Nursing.”
