Ms. Preyer's Teacher Bio:
Jayda Irene, born and raised in Oakland, Ca, is a versatile artist with a passion for dance and production with over 14 years of teaching experience. Her expertise lies in urban dance and productions, and she is committed to promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in the arts industry. Through her work, she aims to inspire Black children and adults to pursue their dreams of becoming professional artists. Jayda has been recognized for her talent and dedication, having been selected as a Seeding Creativity Artist funded by the City of Sacramento, National Endowment of the Arts, and the California Arts Council to further artistic careers. She is currently directing Healing Heels, a local nonprofit that serves ages TK- Adults through dance classes, workshops, and productions. Jayda is represented by RAE Agency in San Francisco and commercially published. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology and Dance from Sacramento State. Jayda has over 10+ years working with youth from various non profits, schools, and organizations teaching leadership, confidence, movement, and life skills. Jayda currently holds the title for Miss Black Sacramento Queen 2024-25. Jayda believes that dance has the power to heal, inspire, and transform lives.Â
Course Descriptions:
Dance:
This year-long course introduces students to the fundamentals of dance through the study of ballet, jazz, and hip hop. With a balance of technique, history, and creative expression, students will build strength, flexibility, rhythm, and coordination while learning to appreciate dance as both an art form and cultural expression. Students will explore the origins and evolution of each style, develop performance skills, and create original choreography that blends multiple genres. Emphasis is placed on discipline, creativity, teamwork, and self-confidence. The course culminates in a student showcase, allowing dancers to share their growth and artistry with the school community.
