Step 1: Teachers and librarians will collaborate to weed underutilized book room resources
Step 2: Teachers and librarians will set up a meeting to decide upon a checkout system that works for everyone
Currently, teachers are using a clothespin system, which is no-cost. The teachers and librarians will re-convene at a later date to discuss the effectiveness of this system and provide suggestions for a modified/different system.
Step 3: Additional shelves will be added to create more space for resources
Step 4: Teachers and librarians will reevaluate around winter 2022 to see if any changes need to be made to keep the system moving along
Results:
Kristine Hedrick worked with the teachers to organize the books in the book room, and the project has proven to be successful and sustainable. K-5 books were organized in bins by reading level. Middle school books were organized in bins by genre/topic and grade. With the new curriculum, the K-5 books were no longer being utilized in this way so they were distributed to be used in classroom libraries. There is a recommended book list that accompanies the new curriculum, and individual copies of these titles will be made available through the regular library collection.
