The Tuxedo STEM Academies seeks to provide every student with a unique educational opportunity available through collaborative activities by focusing on the processes and practices incorporated in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics as it applies to problem solving, creativity, and ingenuity. We believe that every student can and will benefit from this unique educational opportunity and the skills developed in our program will be relevant in not just Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, but multiple fields of study.
The George Grant Mason and George F. Baker Schools have implemented Google Apps for Education Initiative within both schools. Every student in grades 7-12 is provided with a HP Google Chromebook for the academic year. Students use their Chromebooks throughout their classes where they are able to take notes, share work electronically, and collaborate with their fellow classmates on various projects. The Chromebooks provide our students with greater access to resources and materials while reducing the amount of paper used in each class.
The Tuxedo STEM Academies will use performance-based assessment models that can evaluate collaboration, work ethic, presentation skills, classwork, journal logs, participation, and self-evaluation rubrics as a primary grading tool that is directly correlated with content-driven design challenges and problem solving. Our students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of engineering design and practical application of content and use STEM interconnected skills through various mediums rather than relying on a single paper and pencil test as means of assessment.
