CAPS of TUSCALOOSA
Second Step Program - A structured, school-based violence prevention program designed for students from pre-K to 8th grade at selected Tuscaloosa City and County schools. The program's primary goal is to: reduce students' aggressive and impulsive behaviors, and teach empathy skills, anger management, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making strategies.
To report a bullying incident, please click the appropriate school site below and you will be taken to a standard online form. Provide all the information you know that can help staff members deal with the issue including where the incident(s) took place; dates; times; names of those involved, as well as the type of behavior being reported. Please include as much detail as possible so that we can assist you.
West Alabama Community Services
During the holiday season, partnering with our West Alabama community organizations and local food banks is essential to supporting families in need. These partnerships help ensure that every household has access to nutritious meals and the comfort of shared abundance during a time of giving. By working together, we strengthen community connections, promote compassion, and create a lasting impact that extends beyond the holidays.
Counselor Referral [Parent]
Do you need to speak with a school counselor? Please complete the school counseling referral, and a counselor will follow up with you to discuss your referral in detail.
Parent Workshops and Instruction:
Counselors conduct workshops and information sessions for parents or guardians to address the needs of the school community and to reflect the school counseling and guidance curriculum. Topics for school guidance curriculum activities within this component may include, but are not limited to:

Enrollment TCS Schools
The following documents are requested when enrolling a student in the Tuscaloosa City Schools:
Proof of birth/birth certificate
Students must be 5 years old on or before September 1 to enter kindergarten. Registration is now open: English | Spanish.
The current or most recent report card, if applicable
Proofs of residence: Copy of lease or mortgage in the parent's name; Copy of 2 current utility bills in the parent's name
State of Alabama Current Immunization Form (Blue Card)
All documents must show the address of the physical residence and the name of the parent or custodian. P.O. boxes are not acceptable.
Temporary Emergency Services
Temporary Emergency Services provides help through many types of services to the Tuscaloosa County community. TES provides area residents with food bags, clothing, baby items, and personal hygiene products. We also offer an in-house shower facility. Additionally, we provide money for utilities, birth certificates, tooth extraction, and certain prescriptions. If you need utility assistance, please call (205) 391-6647. Appointments are scheduled each Monday, beginning at 9 am. Assistance is limited to Tuscaloosa County residents only. For more information, call Temporary Emergency Services at (205) 758-5535.
The Salvation Army
Assists with:
Holiday giving, Food pantries, Disaster relief, services for the aging, Domestic abuse, summer camps, rental assistance, job training, life skills, and after-school programs.
Turning Point
The mission of Turning Point is to provide comprehensive quality services to primary and secondary victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and empower them to improve their lives. The Tuscaloosa County Health Department offers the public WIC, environmental, home care, and clinical services. Clinical services include STD testing and treatment, family planning, childhood and other vaccines, and breast and cervical cancer screening. Maude Whatley Health Services
Whatley Health Services, Inc. is a private, nonprofit, community health center whose mission is to provide primary health care services to those in need. All of our services are available to children, adults, and seniors who have coverage through private insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and others, and those who have no insurance coverage. For those with limited income, a sliding fee schedule is available who meet certain household size and income guidelines.

Tuscaloosa Housing Authority
The Tuscaloosa Housing Authority (THA) is a public housing agency created by resolution of the City of Tuscaloosa in 1951. THA is a quasi-governmental entity governed by a Board of Commissioners appointed by the Mayor. The property of THA is used for essential public and governmental purposes and is exempt from all taxes, including on all its purchases of supplies and services. THA’s mission is to provide a high standard of safe, decent, and affordable housing to the low to moderate-income residents of Tuscaloosa.
