Counseling Vision Statement
The vision of the Tuscaloosa City Schools’ Counseling Program is that all students are fully prepared for life and career success in an ever-changing world.
Counseling Mission Statement
The mission of the Tuscaloosa City Schools’ Counseling Program is to provide all students access to a data-driven, comprehensive model throughout K-12. Through the leadership of school counselors, students will focus on academic, career, and social/emotional growth. School counselors will serve as advocates for students to develop emotional competence, become lifelong learners, and be college and career-ready. By collaborating with stakeholders, the school counseling program will receive the support and resources needed to prepare students for social, academic, and career excellence. It will make meaningful contributions in an ever-changing world.
FRAMEWORK: Counseling Domains
Tuscaloosa City Schools will provide all essential elements for developing programs to help students achieve success in school. The ASCA National Standards facilitate student development in three domains: Academic Development, Career Development, and Personal/Social Development.
Academic Development
Standards guiding school counseling programs to implement strategies and activities to support and maximize each student’s ability to learn.
Career Development
Standards guiding school counseling programs to help students understand the connection between schools and the world of work, and plan for and make a successful transition from school to postsecondary education and/or the world of work and from job to job across the lifespan.
Personal/Social Development
Standards guiding school counseling programs to help manage emotions and learn and apply interpersonal skills.
