TikTok Ban

On January 18th, 2025 TikTok was supposed to be banned. This has made many TikTokers furious with the government’s choice. This has taken the world by storm, with 1.8 billion people using this popular, addictive app. I have heard so many people talking about the ban and honestly seeing everyone acting out over an app that takes away your hours from your day. Many teens spend hours on TikTok and even more than half of their day on this app. I will say it is very addicting, taking out your phone to scroll through with videos getting better and better depending on the things you like.
From my view, people who watched TikTok have not stopped talking about it. It's extremely crazy how an app like this takes over your time. Just imagine the hours you spend scrolling through Tik Tok, you can use those hours on working on your grades and being successful. Along with working, all those trendy brain rotting videos take time from the work you can put in, or even anything productive.
This app is insanely addicting. According to CNN, 63 percent of people use this app daily, and now it has been taken down. The law requires TikTok to find a new non-Chinese owner or face the ban. This means 170 million Americans could lose access to the platform they use to find entertainment, news, community, or even run a business. TikTok has become the first new platform in years to pose a real competitive threat to America. When people are relying on an app to make money it is not really smart. This can cause laziness and not wanting to find a job. Yes TikTok is a cool app, but does it set you up for success?
Tik Toks popularity is undeniable, however marchcronicle.com states that the user agreement policy, particularly the handling storage of data, has drawn criticism. Lawmakers are concerned that sensitive American information is being controlled at an alarming rate, potentially for misuse by the Chinese government. This gives the Chinese another method to stalk America.
The day TikTok had gone dark for the U.S. lasted for about 12 hours before becoming available again on January 19th. So many TikTokers are excited about this app coming to light again. But we don't know if this will happen again. On Trump's first day back he had TikTok backup. Although TikTok is back up, if you have deleted the app it will not show up in your app store. Statesman.com has found that it is not currently possible for people to download or redownload the app.
Although there are several reasons why Tik Tok should be banned, it has yet to be banned. This app is up and going and back to normal. The platform is made for creating, sharing, and discovering new short videos from all over the world.
