2022-2023 Officers

President

Ada Luu - Senior

Throughout my high school career, I took as many biology classes as I could and got interested in biotechnology, and plan to major in agricultural biotechnology. Working in a lab environment has pushed me to grow academically and personally, and I hope to lead club members in the same direction as they explore the wide world of biotechnology!

Vice President

Marisol Jimenez Garcia - Junior

When I had the opportunity to be an officer for the Biotech Club, I was ready to take on the role. I had a lot of new experiences within this year’s Advanced Biomedical class and was excited to further my knowledge through club activities. I’m looking forward to being able to bring science to the people within our community!

Secretary

Ellyssa Castillo - Sophomore

As a student who usually shies away from afterschool opportunities, I've decided to come out of my shell and use the biotech club as an outlet to further enhance my knowledge in science. Specifically, I enjoy gaining new hands-on skills by working with equipment that I know professionals in the field are using as well. As secretary, I hope to welcome and help other students take their first steps into the world of biotechnology!

Treasurer

Mahelat Alamerew - Sophomore

I joined the leadership team in the Biotech club because I wanted to try an opportunity where I can experience responsibility for a team and wanted to help contribute to the community that accepted me. I wanted to get closer to the club and try out new things, while stepping out of my comfort zone. What pushed me to explore the sciences was my sister. She's a biology major at WSU and the way she described the new topics that she was learning had me hooked and it then helped me find a passion that was something else other than arts. Knowing that there aren't a lot of black women in the science/STEM community, I wanted to pursue the field to make a difference in something I love and this is my first step :)

Community Coordinator

Thanipa (Honey) Suwanchote - Senior

I've always been so curious about science, which was why I let myself be exposed to science-related opportunities and experiences as much as possible. Attending an underprivileged school district means that us students don’t have as many of those resources, making it hard to gain exposure to a field such as biotechnology. As Community Coordinator I hope to bridge this gap, especially for youth that are POC because biotechnology should be fun and accessible for everyone.

2021-2022 Officers

President

Czarin Dela Cruz - Senior

I joined the Biotech Club in hopes of expanding my knowledge of the biomedical field and to engage in various lab experiments outside the classroom. As President, I hope to connect with those who share my passion for biomedical science and to create a space for students to pursue their own curiosities in science. I’m excited to prepare more lab experiments, such as sequencing DNA found in bacteria, and host outreach events to get younger students exposed to the field!

Vice President

Takakazu Maxfield-Matsumoto - Senior

The biotech classes I’ve taken at Foster have been my favorites, and they’ve led to my interest in becoming a biomedical engineer.  I’m part of the leadership team because I want more students to have the same opportunities I’ve had with the FHS biotech program.

Secretary

Thanipa (Honey) Suwanchote - Junior

Science allows me to extend my imagination, which has fascinated me to learn more about biology and human health! As Secretary I have the opportunity to reach out and share my passion for biomedical sciences towards unprivileged youth, because I believe that everyone should have access to this wonderful world in STEM. I look forward to learning more and advancing my skills within this field along with other passionate youth!

Treasurer

Marisol Jimenez Garcia - Sophomore

As a first-generation Latina in STEM, I've dealt with the struggles of obtaining opportunities in my field of interest. Immediately after learning about the Biotech club, I knew this was something I wanted to partake in. Since then I've tried to involve myself more and more with the Advanced Biomedical class, trying to immerse myself in what could potentially lead to more open doors.
