Founder of KTG Hats
After decades in the hat business I decided to start my own hat company. I've seen the highs and lows of the hat industry. My experience has taught me what makes a superior hat. What's the secret to a perfect hat? The answer........YOU! It's not the size of the brim or how high the crown is. It's what makes you feel better about you. Once I combine my expertise with your style, together we will find a perfect hat for you.
who is kevin todd gerber from ktg hats?
Kevin Todd Gerber is a
custom hat designer and the owner of KTG Hats, a company specializing in custom, vintage-style fur felt hats. A veteran of the hat industry, he gained decades of experience working in New York City's oldest and largest hat shop before starting his own brand.
Career highlights
Decades of hat retail experience: For 30 years, Gerber sold fine headwear at a historic NYC hat shop, where his customers included celebrities like Scarlett Johansson, Nick Cage, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Founded KTG Hats: He parlayed his extensive knowledge into his own company, which offers bespoke fur felt hats in hundreds of color and style combinations. The hats are handcrafted in a 130-year-old factory in Quebec, Canada.
"Hats & Guitars" podcast: As a musician himself, Gerber hosts a YouTube podcast where he connects with fellow hat-wearing guitarists and bassists. He provides hat care tutorials and reviews new gear.
Family background in retail: Gerber grew up in a retail family in Queens, New York, and gained early experience working in his father's sports and records shop.
Extensive clientele: With a strong following built over his long career, KTG Hats was able to sell over 250 custom hats in its first year alone.
Musical career
Gerber's musical career involved a variety of projects, including both performing and production roles, and working with both mainstream and alternative artists.
King of Kings: Gerber's band, King of Kings, was discovered by Frank Hannon, the guitarist for the band Tesla, after a performance at the NYC Limelight club. The band was later signed to Geffen Records by music executive Tom Zutaut.
Hesher: He composed and produced many songs for the band Hesher. The band's self-titled debut album on Warner Brothers Records featured contributions from a diverse mix of artists, including Everlast, Biz Markie, Warren Haynes, the Bad Brains, Sadat X, and Cibo Matto.
NYC session musician: Gerber worked as a bassist for various local acts in NYC, performing in live gigs and recording sessions. He played with Steve Holley of Paul McCartney and Wings, Deni Bonet, and Richard Barone of The Bongos.
Retirement from music: Gerber left his music career to prioritize his family after his son was born.
Post-music career
Gerber transitioned from music to a career in retail and hat design, leveraging his lifelong experience in the industry.
