Accuracy is the ability to decode, or read the words correctly. This is important since students sometimes misread words and therefore change meaning of the text. Oftentimes, beginning readers make simple mistakes such the/they, lots/lost, girl/grill, etc. These mistakes in accuracy can change their understanding (i.e. comprehension) of the text. It is important that students read at about 95-99% accuracy at grade level text and beyond.
