HIRE 1100 is a one-credit-hour course that prepares students for workplace success by focusing on professional skills and workforce essentials such as:
Job Readiness
Résumé Writing
Interview Skills
Soft Skills
Job Search Strategies
Networking
Career Planning
and more!
To maintain good financial standing for the MBG Program, a student must:
Have no outstanding balances - All tuition, fees, and other financial obligations to TSTC must be paid in full or covered by an approved payment plan.
Be in compliance with payment agreements - If enrolled in a payment plan, the student must make timely payments as agreed upon with the Business Office.
Have no financial holds - The student must not have any financial holds that would prevent registration, transcript requests, or graduation processing.
Graduates who meet all MBG requirements can apply for reimbursement if they have not received a job offer within six months of graduating. Before submitting a refund request, students must:
Successfully complete and pass the HIRE 1100 course
Graduate from an eligible program
Maintain at least six months of documented job search efforts after graduation
Once the six-month period has passed, eligible graduates have 60 days to submit their refund request. The application will guide students through the necessary steps, and upon approval, the refund will be processed efficiently.
Only tuition payments made personally out of pocket by the student are eligible for a refund through TSTC’s Money-Back Guarantee (MBG) program. Financial aid sources such as Pell Grants, tuition exemptions, and other third-party funding do not qualify.
If tuition was paid using student loans, any eligible refund will be returned directly to the lending agency. Similarly, if tuition was covered through Veterans Benefits, the refund will be issued to the appropriate government entity - either the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or the Department of Defense (DoD) - not to the student. The MBG program does not cover personal or non-tuition-related expenses, including but not limited to books, housing, tools, laptops, or other educational supplies.
Once a refund request is approved, TSTC will process the refund in accordance with institutional policies and notify the student regarding the expected timeline for disbursement.
Note: Students utilizing VA education benefits are eligible to participate in the MBG program. However, they are strongly encouraged to consult with TSTC’s Veteran Services Office prior to requesting a refund, as doing so may affect their VA stipends or housing allowances. The Veteran Services Office can provide guidance on any potential impacts. If Hazlewood Act benefits were used, no tuition will be refunded; however, the hours will be credited back to the student’s remaining Hazlewood eligibility.
Graduates must:
Complete and pass the HIRE 1100 course with an 85% or higher
Graduate from an eligible program
Actively search for a job for at least six months post-graduation, including submitting applications, attending interviews, and networking
Register with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) or an equivalent workforce agency within 30 days of graduating
Submit a detailed job search log documenting all job search activities
Once eligibility is confirmed, graduates should submit the MBG Refund Request Form. The Career Services team will review the request, and if approved, the Financial Aid Office will process the refund.
Technical programs are included in the MBG program. The MBG program excludes degrees focused on continued education (AS degrees, Pre-Allied Health, & the Academic Core Curriculum). Money Back Guarantee Programs
Note: Students who begin in the Pre-Allied Health program and later enroll in an eligible Allied Health program may become eligible for MBG by enrolling in HIRE 1100 and meeting program requirements.
If you continue your education at TSTC in a consecutive semester, you remain eligible. However, transferring to another college after graduation disqualifies you. The six-month post-graduation period begins after your final semester at TSTC.
Students will not be eligible if they:
Pursue further education outside of TSTC
Enlist in the military after graduation
Become incarcerated after graduation
Have a criminal background that prevents employment
Are not eligible to work in the U.S.
Do not complete required industry exams/licenses (if applicable)
Have unpaid balances or financial holds at TSTC
To be eligible, you must pass the HIRE 1100 course. Enrollment coaches will have a list of eligible programs and the correct semester to add this course to your schedule.
The MBG criteria were developed by a multi-divisional task force based on workforce preparation needs. A key component is the HIRE 1100 course, which covers job readiness skills such as resume building, interview techniques, job search strategies, and professional communication.
The MBG program reflects TSTC’s commitment to student success by ensuring graduates are well-prepared for industry. The program provides financial reassurance while enhancing students' employability through strategic support and skill development.
Pell Grants, tuition exemptions, and other third-party funding are not eligible for reimbursement under the Money-Back Guarantee (MBG) program. Only tuition paid personally out of pocket by the student is considered refundable.
If tuition was paid using student loans, any eligible refund will be returned directly to the lending agency. If tuition was paid using Veterans Benefits, the refund will be directed to the appropriate entity - either the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or the Department of Defense (DoD) - not to the student. If Hazlewood Act benefits were used, no tuition will be refunded; however, the hours will be credited back to the student’s remaining Hazlewood eligibility.
Students utilizing VA education benefits are eligible for the MBG program but should meet with TSTC’s Veteran Services Office prior to requesting a refund. A refund may impact their stipends or housing allowances, and the Veteran Services Office can provide clarification on those implications.
The MBG is TSTC’s commitment to student success. If a graduate meets all requirements and does not receive a job offer within six months, they can apply for a tuition refund.
The main time commitment is completing the HIRE 1100 course, which meets for up to two hours per week. Additional time may be required for job search preparation and certifications. Post-graduation, students must actively search for a job for at least six months and maintain a job search log.
Students must:
Be enrolled in an eligible program
Pass HIRE 1100 with an 85% or higher
Complete all graduation requirements
Maintain good financial standing
Complete industry certifications or exams
Be eligible to work in the U.S.
Failure to meet these criteria may result in disqualification from the MBG program.
Yes, you can retake HIRE 1100. If you didn’t successfully complete the course, you’re allowed to enroll in it again. This course is important because it helps prepare you for job search success and is required for the Money-Back Guarantee program, so we encourage you to take full advantage of the support it offers.
