Pupil Progress Evaluation

Mintonye Elementary School

Grade Two

Teachers:   Christina Bymaster, Sheryl Davis, Eileesh Leuck

 

            A student must be working at or above grade level in any subject to receive an A grade.  All grades and percentages are based upon the Tippecanoe School Corporation grading scale.

The grading scale is as follows:

Mastery = 100% - 90% - A              

Approaching Mastery = 89% - 80% - B                                                           

Developing Mastery = 79% - 70% - C                                          

Needs Time to Master = 69% - 60% - D

                                               59% - 0% - F

 *Note- All percentages and grades are given on work related to the Indiana Standards for each subject.                                      

 Reading & Literature (Literature K-5; Nonfiction K-5; Foundational Skills; Vocabulary)

          Mastery:

                2.  Daily work should be completed on time and with consistent accuracy.

                3.  The student should be reading fluently and with expression at or above grade level.

                4.  The student should be able to sound out new words with little or no difficulty.

                5.  The student should show an accurate level of comprehension of stories both verbally and

              Approaching Mastery:

            1. The student should score 80 – 89% on class work related to the Indiana Reading                                        

                2. Daily work should be completed on time and with accuracy most of the time.

                3. The student should be reading with fluency and with an attempt to use expression.

                4. The student should be able to use phonetic skills most of the time to sound out new  

               5. The student should be able to comprehend stories and answer comprehension questions

                    both verbally and written in simple form.

      Developing Mastery:

            1. The student scores 79%- 70% on class work related to the Indiana Reading       

     Needs Time to Master:

            1. The student scores 69% - 00% on class work related to the Indiana Reading      

2.  Daily work is inaccurate and/ or is late most of the time.

3. The student does not use phonetic skills to sound out new words.

4. The student does not recognize basic sight words.

5. The student has trouble understanding the stories and exhibits some effort in the    

    reading lesson.

Language Arts (Writing, Grammar & Spelling)

          Mastery:

      Writing Standards.

                2.  Daily work should be completed on time and with consistent accuracy.

                3. The student exhibits accurate use and understanding of writing process skills and

                    applications.

                4.  The student accurately uses Language Conventions with little or no difficulty.

                5. The student exhibits excellent listening and speaking skills. Students will be given the score of

                     4 (four) indicating mastery

              Approaching Mastery:

             1. The student should score 89% - 80% on class work related to the Indiana Language Arts and        

                     Writing Standards.

                2.  Daily work should be completed on time and with accuracy most of the time.

                3.  The student exhibits accurate use and understanding of writing process skills and

                     applications most of the time.

                4.  The student uses Language Conventions with little or no difficulty most of the time.

                5.  The student exhibits excellent listening and speaking skills most of the time. Students will be

                     given the score of 3 (three) indicating approaching mastery.

              Developing Mastery:

       Writing Standards.

                2.   Daily work is completed on time and with accuracy some of the time.

                3.  The student exhibits accurate use and understanding of writing process skills and

                     applications some of the time.

                4.  The student uses Language Conventions with little or no difficulty some of the time.

                5.  The student exhibits excellent listening and speaking skills some of the time. Students will be

                     given the score of 2 (two) indicating developing mastery.

           Needs Time to Master:                                                                                         

      Writing Standards.

                2.    Daily work is not completed on time and with accuracy.

                3.    The student does not exhibit accurate use and understanding of writing process skills and

                       applications.

                4.   The student does not use Language Conventions with little or no difficulty.

                5.   The student does not exhibit excellent listening and speaking skills. Students will be given the 

                      score of 1 (1) indicating needs time to master.

Mathematics (Number Sense; Computation & Algebraic Thinking; Measurement & Data Analysis; Geometry)

             Mastery:

               1. The student scores 90 – 100% on the Indiana Mathematics Standards.

                   2. All daily work is accurate and completed on time.

                   3. The student can work addition and subtraction problems without the use of fingers or

                        other counting devices.

                   4. The student demonstrates an accurate understanding of all concepts presented through

                        verbal and written work.

                   5. The student displays consistent effort to solve math problems both written and oral.   

                 Approaching Mastery:

                 1. The student scores 80 – 89% on class work related to the Indiana Mathematics  

                   2. Daily work is turned in on time and is accurate most of the time.

                   3. The student can work addition and subtraction problems, though he/she many use      

                       counters most of the time.

                   4. The student understands most concepts presented and demonstrates this through verbal

                        and written work. 

                   5.  The student uses effort to solve math problems both written and oral most of the time.

         Developing Mastery:

               1. The student scores 79% - 70% on class work related to the Indiana Mathematics                   

                   2. Daily work is inaccurate, unfinished, and/or late frequently.

                   3. The student frequently uses counters to work addition and subtraction problems.

                   4.  The student understands some concepts presented and demonstrates this through verbal

                         and written work.

                   5.  The student sometimes exhibits effort to solve math problems both written and oral.

         Needs Time to Master:

               1. The student scores 69% - 00% on class work related to the Indiana Mathematics

                   2. Daily work is inaccurate, unfinished, and/or late most of the time.

                   3. The student must use counters to work addition and subtraction problems.

                   4.  The student has difficulty understanding new concepts that are presented. This would be   

                        evident in both verbal and written work.

                   5. The student exhibits little or no effort to solve math problems both written and oral.

 Social Studies, Science, Health & Computer Science (graded as individual subjects)

             In the second grade, much of the content of these subjects are presented in a group discussion or

            as a group project.  Therefore the grading will be based on the following:

Encyclopedia, reference book, or on the internet and reporting on it.

         Mastery:

              1. The student scores 100% - 90% on class work.

                  2. The student listens to and contributes during the group discussion.  He/she volunteers

                      information or participates when asked.

                  3. The student contributes ideas to a group project and be able to work cooperatively on it.

                  4. The student does individual projects willingly, puts time and thought into the projects and

                       turns them in neatly and on time.

                  5. The student completes worksheets neatly, on time, and with accuracy.

          Approaching Mastery:

              1. The student scores 89% - 80% on class work.

                  2. The student listens to and contributes during the group discussion most of the time.   

                       He/she volunteers information or participates most of the time.

                  3. The student contributes ideas to a group project and is able to work cooperatively on it 

                       most of the time.

                  4. The student does individual projects, puts time and thought into the projects and

                       turns them in neatly and on time most of the time.

                  5. The student completes worksheets neatly, on time, and with accuracy most of the time.

          Developing Mastery:

              1. The student scores 79% - 70% on class work.

           Needs Time to Master:

                  1. The student scores 79% - 70% on class work.                                                                                           

                  2. The student contributes very little or nothing at all to group discussions.

                  3. The student does not participate in group projects and cannot work cooperatively in a

                  4. Individual projects are late, poorly thought out and finished with a lack of neatness, or not

                       completed at all.

                  5. Worksheets are inaccurate or unfinished.

                  6. No effort is put forth to attempt the concepts presented, therefore non-mastery is evident.
