1. Students are given a grade in music every week. This grade is a participation grade or a grade based on the Indiana State Standards or a music concept covered in music classes. There are usually 14-15 grades in a semester. Three classes are usually missed for weather delays, convocations, trips or other scheduling conflicts. Therefore, 6-7 grades will be participation, and 6-7 grades will be Standards or concepts grades for the semester. Rubrics are used for all quizzes and tests as well as participation evaluation. I have rubrics which I consult for evaluation.
2. The participation grade is determined by how or if a student participates in class as well as Google Classroom online if we are doing anything in a virtual class setting.
3. The Standards or music concepts grade is based on playing instruments, singing, composing, dancing, written evaluations of skills learned, and performing music. The specific evaluation is listed in power school with the grade.
4. I keep a record of all Indiana State Music Standards covered in class and this is updated and evaluated each week. I also review all children’s grades each week and see what students need more help in music class. I keep a record in the physical record book, of who has answered questions in class, so that I know who understands the material before tests are given. This is evaluated and reviewed every week, also. Parents are notified when I see a problem in these areas and solutions for improvement are determined for the child involved.
