There may be times virtual learning is required of your student (also known as e-learning or remote learning). Here you will find the expectations with this form of learning. This does NOT include when your child is absent for illness or family vacations. Please do not expect work in advance, as teaching is paced based on the children's assessments. Work will be made up with paper copies in those circumstances if necessary.
If a student has an assigned device from the school, it is expected that it is treated gently and with responsibility (keep it in one area, keep it and the cord in good condition, etc.). Please do not put any stickers on the device or write on it in any way. Bring the device and cord back to school upon reconvening.
Students are expected to try to be in a quiet area away from other noises and distractions and to stay in the one place during the Meet. Background noise can make it hard for your child to hear the instruction and interfere with others' hearing as well.
*No distractions includes siblings and pets not intervening during instruction.
Be prepared with materials. Please use headphones when possible to eliminate feedback during Meets. Your child may need to solve mathematical problems, read, or write during this time, so please have the device free-standing or a spot to set it so I can still see them while they work. They should have what they need for the subject area gathered before the Meet begins.
School dress code should be observed as appropriate during Meets.
Parents and other guardians are welcome to observe quietly and are appreciated for assisting with technical difficulties, but are asked to not intervene or help their child with the material unless it is labeled 'homework'. If a parent needs to contact me, please email me and we will set up a time to talk!
Respect towards others is requested. This means the child should have themselves muted unless otherwise specified or directed. They should log on and log off in a timely manner. They should not eat or drink during the Meet time.
Virtual learning is something the TSC has committed to making as efficient as possible. All students at WRE had the option to request to borrow technology, meaning that if you asked for it, we will provide an iPad (K-1) or Chromebook (2-5) and charging cord that should be returned upon re-entry. All K-2 classes will be using Google Classroom to manage assignments and post videos during the year. Parents do not have access to Google Classroom outside of using their child's login, so if you have any questions, please reach out to me via Class Dojo, phone, or email (available under my Home tab).
In school or at home, teachers are expected to teach reading, writing, and math to the best of our ability. You can expect at least two videos for your child to watch, ranging from five to twenty minutes, as well as short assignments on Google Classroom. Class work should take a couple hours to complete (including watching the videos) and will need turned in for review. I will also hold Google Meetings with the students. Students will need to log in through Google Meets app and enter a code. The expectations for the meetings are listed above.
With any questions or concerns, please reach out to me anytime! Your child's safety is my top priority. Please don't stress out too much about all these changes, we're all in this together!
