The spelling lists usually have a theme associated with them. This theme is listed at the top of each section. They do not correspond to a particular reading story, as they are phonics-based in nature.
A pretest is taken on Mondays, and the final test is taken on Fridays. If we have a short week of only 4 days, I still try to keep to this schedule. If we have a short week of only 3 days, I do not have a test on Friday. We continue with the same words the following week and have a test on the Friday of the following week.

Vocabulary
We have a new reading series this year. It is organized in such a way that the same vocabulary words are used for several short stories with the same theme. Because of this, the vocabulary tests do not follow a Monday-to-Friday schedule. It may be 6 or 7 days before we have a vocabulary quiz. Therefore, a quiz may be scheduled for a Wednesday or a Thursday.
Please know that a student will always have at least a full 5 school days to study for their vocabulary test
They will write the date of the vocabulary test in their assignment notebook.
Students should be able to use the word in a sentence.
Students should know the part of speech of each vocabulary word, as it is used in the sentence provided.
Noun, Verb, Adjective, or Adverb
Below is a list of the vocabulary words that we will be using. They are listed with the short stories that accompany them in the textbook.
