Color Slides:

To promote positive behavior choices in our classroom, we will be using a colorful slide chart. Each child will begin the day with his/her magnet on the red slide (ready to learn). During the day, the magnets will be moved up or down depending on choices made in the classroom. At the end of each day all students who have slid up and is above red on the slide chart will receive a hole punch on their reward punch card. After ten punches on the punch card, each student can get a prize from the prize bucket.

Calming Corner:

Our classroom also utilizes a calming corner. A calming corner is a small, designated space located within a classroom. The purpose of a calming corner is to help support self-regulation while keeping students in the classroom if they need a break from instruction time or a group activity. The use of calming corners can transform the culture of the classroom because calming corners are not consequence-based but rather used as an opportunity, driven by a student’s choice to feel better. When students need a break or chance to be alone they are allowed to visit our calming corner. Each student is allowed to use the calming corner once in the morning and once in the afternoon for 3 minute at a time. Special circumstances may warrant more time in the calming corner throughout the day and the teacher will decide this on a case by case basis.
