Homework in second grade helps to reinforce concepts we are learning in the classroom and teaches responsibility. I really strive for it to be purposeful and not just “busy work”. If your child is working at grade level they should mostly be able to complete their homework independently. Everything sent home will be previously taught at school. Students are expected to do their best on the homework. Expect to see homework each evening Monday-Thursday . Weekends are good times for FUN reading and writing and family games!
Students need to practice their spelling words and read every evening. If you can establish a structured homework time now you will be doing yourself (& your child) a life-long favor. Your child should spend approximately 30 minutes on homework each evening (Mon.- Thurs.) If he/she is consistently spending more time than this, please let me know. If your child finishes his/her homework before 30 minutes she can read for the remaining time. ALL ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE DONE IN PENCIL UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED
