Meet the Teacher

Mrs. Debbie Smith Beckett

  I am beginning my 30th year of teaching in The Tippecanoe School Corporation. I have taught first, second, and third grades. I have also spent 2 years as an Instructional Coach. 

  I began my first years in education as a paraprofessional in a kindergarten classroom at Clinton Central Elementary School in Michigantown, Indiana. I also had the pleasure of being a paraprofessional in a K-5 resource room at Dayton Elementary for two years. I began teaching first grade at Dayton in 1996. I transferred to Burnett Creek when it opened in 1999. I taught first grade here at BCE until 2014 when I became an Instructional Coach where I served 2-4 elementary schools for two years. I then decided I wanted to "come back home" to BCE. I have taught third grade since my return to the classroom with the exception of one year in second grade. 

  I am a graduate of Ball Statue University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten Endorsement. I earned my Master of Education from Indiana Wesleyan University . I have also completed numerous hours beyond my Master's Degree, including completion of an administrative program. I strive to demonstrate the importance of being a lifelong learner.

  I married my husband, Allen, in  June 2016. We live in Clinton County where we enjoy renovating our old farmhouse. We enjoy spending time with our extended family including Allen's son, my bonus son, AJ. We also enjoy relaxing with our dogs and cats. In my spare time I enjoy watching live theatre. I am a member of the Clinton County Civic Theatre where I enjoy being onstage and backstage in our productions and serving on the scholarship committee.

  I am thrilled to begin this new school year of learning with our classroom family.
