Below is the process of any new or returning coach in Twin Rivers Unified School District. All coaches must complete these steps to coach at Foothill High School.
New coaches must complete an application on Informed K-12. This is needed to initiate new hire paperwork. Note that all new hires must be fingerprinted if not TRUSD employees.
Returning coaches must complete an application on Informed K-12. This must be completed every year.
All coaches must complete an application on Home Campus. You will include all your certificates: Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion in Sports, and Heat Illness (all on the NFHS Learn website)
Foundations of Coaching is required for all coaches after their first year. This coource provides a unique student-centered curriculum for interscholastic teacher/coaches, assisting them in creating a healthy and age-appropriate athletic experience that supports the educational mission of our nation's schools. It is a lifetime certificate and only needs to be completed once.
Concussion in Sports is a 2 year certificate that is required for all coaches. It highlights the impact of sports-related concussion on athletes, teaches how to recognize a suspected concussion, and provides protocols to manage a suspected concussion with steps to help players return to play safely after a concussion.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a 2 year certificate that is required for all coaches. It is to help coaches learn and recognize the warning signs and symptoms of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Also included are guidelines for what to do in the critical moments after an individual suddenly collapses in order to save their life, such as calling 9-1-1, starting chest compressions and sending for an AED.
Heat Illness is a 2 year certificate that is required for all coaches. This certificate helps coaches provide the fundamentals of a strong heat acclimatization plan and guidelines for limiting activities to account for changing environmental conditions and other contributing risk factors.
All coaches are required to take an in person CPR/AED course from an accredited institute, such as American Red Cross or National CPR Foundation.
All coaches are required to take a 1st aid course. Most courses need to be recertified every 2 years.
Blood Borne Pathogens certificate is required for all coaches. This is a 1 year certificate that needs to be renewed every year.
All coaches are required provide evidence of a negative Teberculosis Test.
