On March 28, 2013 we ran a full-school professional development session on disciplinary literacy that was heavily modeled after our experience at the 2013 NCTE Convention in Boston. Below are our essential questions, faculty introduction, breakout sessions, and ideas for post professional development departmental collaboration. Essentially, we became prophets in our own land and modeled the type of professional development opportunities that we found engaging and informative.
Professional Development Topic:
Full Faculty Introduction: a brief description of how the day will unfold and the statement of the goal, which is to open a discussion about literacy in our school. We want this to highlight the good things that are already happening, spotlight moments for teachers to reflect and/or learn new strategies (by hearing about successes), and represent our community as a school that is willing to grow.

Schedule:
NOTE: Within each breakout session time will be devoted to collaborative discussion. Members will be able to discuss their current practices and ideas and how they plan to incorporate today’s concepts into their classrooms.
ALSO: Below you will find our initial proposal for PD and then our revised and more succinct proposal which ended up creating the PD you have read about above.
