I just got started with Arduino in 2014. Arduino is a hobbyist electronics platform which uses a programmable logic controller (ATMEGA series) and a very C++ like language to write logic.
Arduino starter kits with dozens of resistors, LEDs and other components are available for less then $100. It's a great introduction to the world of "interactive" devices.
If I do anything other than the bog-standard stuff, I'll post it. At the moment I'm still experimenting and learning about basic electronic concepts.
