Jennifer Carlton earned her Bachelor of Music Education (2001) and Master of Music Education (2017) from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Ms. Carlton’s career in education began by teaching band at various Catholic grade schools in the Chicagoland area. She began teaching at Troy Community Consolidated School District 30-c in 2005 as a general music and choir teacher at Heritage Trail Elementary School. In 2007, she was accepted into her current position of band director at Troy Middle School (TMS) and William B. Orenic Intermediate School. Ms. Carlton currently teaches beginning woodwinds, the TMS Concert Band, and assists with the TMS Symphonic Band. Her Concert and Intermediate Bands have consistently earned Division I ratings at Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) District Contest, and in both 2015 and 2016, her Intermediate Band was awarded “Honor Status” at the IGSMA State Festival.
Ms. Carlton is a recipient of the Chicagoland Outstanding Music Educator Award, and the IGSMA Barbara Buehlman Young Conductor Award, and has received two citations of excellence from the National Band Association. She serves as IGSMA District 6 Co-Chair and is a member of the American School Band Directors Association.
She currently sits principal clarinet in the Joliet Symphony Orchestra and plays in various woodwind ensembles and local pit orchestras. She also holds the position of Adjunct Professor of Clarinet at the University of St. Francis, in Joliet, IL.
William R. Goetz earned his Bachelor of Music Education (2000) and Master of Music Education (2003) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Mr. Goetz has been teaching Band at Troy Community Consolidated School District
30-C since 2006. He is the director of the Troy Middle School Symphonic Band and under his direction the band has been awarded Honors Status and Superior with High Honors at the Illinois Grade School Music Association State Festival and has been invited to participate in the prestigious SuperState Concert Band Festival. He also teaches beginning brass and percussion, the TMS Percussion Workshop, and assists with the Concert Band. He presented the clinic session “Teach, Reteach, and Reinforce: Philosophy & Strategies for Teaching Successful First & Second-Year Bands” at the 2011 Illinois Music Education Conference. In 2018 the Troy Middle School Symphonic Band performed at the Illinois Music Education Conference.
Mr. Goetz was a recipient of the Chicagoland Outstanding Music Educator Award, and the IGSMA Barbara Buehlman Young Conductor Award. Mr. Goetz has been awarded the National Band Association Citation of Excellence multiple times and is a member of the Illinois Grade School Music Association, Illinois Music Education Association, the National Band Association, Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters’ Fraternity, and the American School Band Directors Association. He currently serves as the IGSMA District 6 Co-Chair.
Mr. Goetz plays trombone in the Joliet Symphony Orchestra, the Fox Valley Brass Band and the Black Willow Brass Quintet.
