Starting in 6th grade, students are divided into two full-instrumentation bands which are graded, daily classes. Troy Middle School 7th and 8th grade students are divided into three groups , the Troy Middle School Symphonic, and Concert Bands, and Percussion Workshop. All Troy Middle School Band students participate in Marching Band and have the option to participate in Jazz Band.
The Troy Bands have experienced much success in recent years. The members of the Troy Bands participate in a number of performances in addition to their large concert ensembles. Each year the Troy Bands send approximately 70 events to IGSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest. Students also participate in the annual Troy Chamber Concert, performing in small group ensembles (Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, etc.). Many band members also participate in the Winter Carol Band which performs each year at local nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and various community events.
