Professional Development

PlayWorks Training

Monday, August 7th 8:00am - 9:00 am

Training will be held at Virtual at your own building.

This is a training for the Assistant Principals to review the Resign Design, Proactive Whole Group Management strategies, and to goal set for each building and the training on the 8th.

Tuesday, August 8th 8:00am - 3:00pm

Training will be held at Shorewood Elementary.

This training will be a combination of a refresher course for anyone that has already had the initial training and new staff as each building works to review and action plan their goals for the 23-24 school year.

ESP TeamBuilding

Mr. Robert Powell will lead all ESP staff through professional learning infused with activities that align with the Educational Support Professional Standards of the NEA Professional Growth Continuum. Interactive group activities and coaching sessions will be used to introduce the topics of communication, trust-building, conflict resolution, leadership, and aims to achieve the following objectives:

Increase collaboration and communication among educators and staff.
Foster a positive and supportive school culture.
Develop effective leadership within the school district.

John Schu: The Gift of Story

When we share our hearts through story, we inspire others to think more deeply about their own hearts and how stories connect us all. In this presentation of the heart, teacher, librarian, children's author, book lover, and story ambassador John Schu invites readers to consider literacy beyond its academic benefits, highlighting the ways story speaks to our hearts and brings us together. Presented through a study of five affective elements of story --- healer, inspiration, clarifier, compassion, and connector --- participants will explore how the universal truths found in stories can change us, inspire us, connect us to others, answer our deepest questions, and help us heal.

Summer 2023 Session information:

Wednesday, August 2nd 9:30-11:00am

The first 25 participants will receive a complimentary autographed copy of The Gift of Story by John Schu to use during the presentation. Certified staff will be compensated $40 an hour for participation. Non-certified will be paid their hourly rate.

SIOP Training

SIOP {Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol} is an instructional model that uses researched-based strategies and techniques that make content more comprehensible to students while promoting Academic English language proficiency. SIOP provides teachers with a unique model through which to plan, teach, and reflect on how they were able to set all students up for success. While this model was originally created to support English learners, the principles & practices of SIOP set all students up for success.

Explicit Instruction Training

Monday, July 24 and Tuesday, July 25

9:00am - 2:00pm

This PD will be open to all Special Education Certified Staff

This two-day training will engage participants in developing a deeper understanding of explicit instruction through in-depth exposure to the explicit instruction model and supporting practices required for effective implementation. Participants will leave with new or refined skills to implement explicit instruction in any grade level or content area.

Technology Training for everyone

Improve your tech skills with these specially designed sessions for ALL staff (teachers, administrators, associates, admin assistants, custodians, and bus drivers).
