Epsilon Beta is a club for high school students interested in the library. Its official name is Episcpoi Tes Bibliothekes, "Keepers of the Library".
The Epsilon Beta Library Club meets at least once a month in the library during WIN time to discuss upcoming activities. Sign ups are open through the first week of October and club dues are $2 per member.
Some our events include:
Reading to students at Boone & Lincoln Elementary
Decorating the library and display cases for each season/holiday
Crafting/Gaming sessions throughout the year.

Members of this group will challenge themselves to read a one Gateway Nominee each quarter throughout the school year. At the end of each quarter, this group will meet in the library during WIN time for a "Grub & Gab" session where we will talk about the books we read from the Gateway Nominee List and also enjoy some snacks with our discussions.

In September, the Ninth Grade Center celebrates Hide-A-Book Day! This is a National event where people from all over the world leave copies of their favorite books in public places for other readers to find. It is a way to share a love of reading and their favorite books with the rest of the world.
The NGC library staff participates by hiding 10-15 new books around the school for students to find. If a student finds one of these book, it is theirs to keep!
Epsilon Beta Club members are invited to decorate the library for TeenTober using an abundance of decorations supplied by the library staff.
Students take a guess on how many candies are in our Goodie Jar! The closest guess wins the candy jar and a spooky book to go with them!
For TeenTober, our artistic students can submit their best "spooky" artwork for a sweet prize! The winning artwork is then enlarged and dispalyed in the library every October!
NGC students sign up to attend one of our "Let's Get Crafty" sessions in the library. Students who sign up are able to come to the library and decorate a campfire mug using paint pens. This event is completely free to students and the students are able to keep their mug!
Teams sign up for TeenTober Trivia this month in the library. The teams are asked 30 spooky trivia questions to test their knowledge. The winning team wins a bag of goodies to share!
Seven spooky Halloween images are placed around the school and any student who finds one is given a free spooky book of their choice!
Any student who comes to the library and says "Trick or Treat" on the last day of school before fall break will get a piece of candy! Available while supplies last!

To celebrate National Picture Book Day, the Epsilon Beta Library Club visits Boone & Lincoln Elementary to read to the classes and do an activity with them.
In November, students sign up to come to the library during WIN time to play a classic game. Each week focuses on a different game. The first week is Uno, the second week is Bingo, and the third week is Guess Who? We have about 15-20 spots available for each gaming session.
Members of the Epsilon Beta club meet in the library before Thanksgiving break to enjoy some good food and good company.
Students are invited to participate in an ornament painting session in the library to celebrate the holidays. This is a free event and each student paints two wood slice ornaments. Some are painted free hand and others use a stencil.
Each year, the NGC Library has books that are damaged or withdrawn due to poor overall condition. Instead of throwing these books away, students repurpose these books into holiday decorations!

Sadly, this past school year we did not get to do much in the library during the month of January due to the large amount of snow days!
Students are invited to come to the library and go on a blind date with a book! Close to 20 books are wrapped up in red paper and a short description is placed on the cover. Students who go on a "blind date" with one of these books selects a book based on the description, reads the first 3 chapters, and then "rates their date". Their name is then put into a drawing for a prize!
In honor of Library Lover's Month, the library hosts another round of trivia. Teams can sign up to come to the library to test their knowledge with 5 rounds of trivia. The winning team leaves with a sweet prize!
During Library Lover's Month, the Epsilon Beta Library Club loves to show teachers their appreciation by putting on the "Breakfast with Books" event each year. Club members sign up to bring in a breakfast item for teachers and staff members to enjoy, and then go around to each classroom with their cart of goodies making sure everyone gets a breakfast treat in honor of Library Lover's Month.
Students who sign up to participate in the Gateway Readers group have their 3rd meeting mid February. Group members must have read at least ONE Gateway book before this event. Students meet with Mrs. White in the library during WIN time and they enjoy snacks in the library while talking about the Gateway books they read.
Members of the Gateway Readers Group and any student who read at least 2 of the Gateway Nominees are invited to the library to enjoy lunch and vote for their favorite Gateway book for the school year.
This is an annual event where the top 16 checkouts from the NGC library are put into a single elimination bracket to determine which book was the top pick at NGC for the 2025/2026 school year. Books move forward each round based on student votes. Students are able to vote electronically or on paper twice a week for 2 weeks before a winner is finally chosen.
Students also fill out a bracket predicting which books will move on after each round of voting. The student with the bracket that is the closest to the actual outcome of the tournament wins a basket of goodies.
Each year, NGC and TBHS team up to invite a young adult author to the PAC to give a presentation to our students, participate in a Q&A session, and also autograph copies of their books. This event is open to all students at NGC.
Students sign up to come to the library to create a colorful window cling. Students can take their window clings home or they can give them to Mrs. White to decorate our library in honor of spring.
Epsilon Beta Members who have earned at least 15 participation points throughout the year are invited to attend a field trip to Kokomo Joe's where we team up to complete an escape room. After the escape room, students are provided with pizza and a soft drink as well as a $5 game card for the arcade. The club will have a fundraiser during the year to help students pay for their field trip.
Epsilon Beta club members are invited to come to the library and decorate a wooden bookmark for a teacher who made an impact on them over the course of the school year. The bookmarks are then handout out during teacher appreciation week.
All Epsilon Beta club members are invited to an End of the Year Party to celebrate the end of another great year. Students are invited to bring snacks, and we play a few end of the year games, give out awards, and give out raffle prizes.
