Scouting America is for youth who are 11 years old through 18 years old. Youth experience a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster to achieve the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness. Camping, fun with friends -- and more. It’s the adventure of a lifetime.
At Troop 212, we strive to keep scouting affordable to everyone. We want to reach as many youth as possible in an effort to train them as individuals, a team and future leaders. All you have to do to join is simply come out to any of our meetings and talk to us. We will have applications available to fill out at any time. Please feel free to contact us.
The cost of membership for a year is roughly $60-$80 per registered scout and can vary minimally by year (Registration, Council Dues and Insurance).
There is an optional (Recommended) subscription to Boy's Life magazine your son can order. The cost for Boy's Life is an additional $12.00 for the year.
We renew our membership every December. We do pro-rate the membership based on when you sign up.
You may check our uniform closet before purchasing uniforms. Uniforms may be purchased at either Scout shop in Virginia Beach or Newport News. You can click the link on out our Resources page for directions to both locations.
Scouting reinforces the skills and values we want our youth to learn while they're having fun. Our goal at Troop 212 is to continually develop a program that will challenge the youth of our community to make a difference in the environment they live. Scouting goes far beyond camping, canoeing, hiking, earning merit badges, rank advancement. Scouting is a way of life, a set of values and standards we try to teach these young men.
If we are able to influence our youth with the right values, morals and standards now, this will become their way of thinking which will govern how they make decisions in the future. At some point in our future, these same young men will be making decisions, judgments, laws, and other life changing actions that will affect our lives. Those decisions will be in our best interest if we have given them the proper foundation to build their way of thinking and reasoning.

If your child is younger than 11 years old, please consider joining cub scouts. There are many in the local area including Pack 212 that is also sponsored by NEW Creation United Methodist Church.
