Augmenting democracy is all about giving individuals and groups what they need to re-engage and co-create local, national and international communities. While we have have seen the rise of impressive technical solutions to pressing issues, adding complexity has created a growing minority of individuals who are no longer connecting to their community in a meaningful way. This is not sustainable. We are looking for innovative ways of letting people re-connect with their communities and themselves.
Connecting with people outside your city and around the world. Looking at local issues with a global perspective. Addressing pressing, local issues with locals. The impact journey is a way of bringing the collective wisdom of strangers to bear on a local agenda. The method is kick-started during Trondheim Playground, and continues through the September Augmenting Democracy event.
We know so much about why we care, how we behave, and what a good life entails for a human being. Join us in the search for an understanding of how we carefully redesign our society with this knowledge in mind, lifting the haze and making technology and institutions become tangible, meaningful and subservient to humans again.
The Augmenting Democracy agenda kicks off during Trondheim Playground in august. Output from an Open hackathon on August 26th will be presented as part of the portfolio of initiatives to be shared with a wider community at The NextEra Augmenting Democracy event on September 15th! This years' theme for the hackathon is "Creating the future".
The NextEra initiative by the Finnish innovation fund Sitra and the acclaimed think tank Demos Helsinki will join us in creating an event with a global perspective on the local community.
NextEra advocates that we as a society can indeed ask ourselves where we want to go in the future, and the initiative has set up a series of global meetings to create a shared understanding and start building visions for the next era of well-being. From San Francisco, Tokyo, London and Helsinki; to the city of Trondheim.

Talented students, researchers, public leaders and international democracy entrepreneurs meet at NTNU to exchange and build knowledge on ways of augmenting democracy.
NTNU, known as the premier technical university of Norway, has a large campus for humanities and social sciences. Throughout the last ten years, we have seen the importance of integrating these fields of study in the development of technology. Particularly, this has been evident in design driven innovation on the product, service and system levels. But what happens if the design effort is really big?
Location: Dora 1 bunker, part of the Hendelser på Nyhavna festival
Nyhavna is an almost clean slate for city development, yet it is an area loaded with creativity. The harbor administration hosts a seminar and open mic session on the role of creative industries in the development of Nyhavna.
Mixing citizens with businesses, politicians and civil servants, we dedicate an evening of experimental activities to experience and build understanding on different ideas for augmenting democracy. More about the experiments can be found on the sub-page "experimentation day"
