Homesickness is very common, especially for sixth graders. Our staff and chaperones are experienced in supporting students and helping them stay engaged in activities. We encourage students to give camp time to work, as they often feel much better once they settle in.
No. To help students fully enjoy the camp experience and connect with one another, cell phones and smartwatches are not permitted. Any devices brought will be held by staff and returned at the end of the trip.
In the event of an emergency, you may contact Camp Kern at __________. Camp staff will help relay the message to us immediately.
All medications (prescription and over-the-counter) must be turned in according to school procedures and will be administered by designated staff.
Notes about medications: Student will not be able to keep any medications on them (the only exception is an inhaler or epi-pen). Medications will be kept at the Camp Kern health center. Please DO NOT send medications in your child’s luggage or bag. They must be in the manufacturer’s container or prescription bottle and clearly marked with your child’s name and instructions. PLEASE BRING IN ANY MEDICATION BY MAY 4 SO WE HAVE TIME TO CHECK IT AND ORGANIZE IT
We will be posting updates and photos on our private Facebook page throughout the trip so families can follow along and see what students are experiencing.
Don’t worry! Camp staff and teachers are great at helping students problem-solve and share when appropriate. Forgetting an item rarely impacts a student’s ability to enjoy the trip.
Camp activities will continue rain or shine. Students should pack weather-appropriate clothing, including rain gear and closed-toe shoes. If rain is predicted, ponchos from the dollar store are great! We also recommend a few extra pairs of socks.
Students will stay in cabins with their classmates (usually 6-10 students per cabin). Each cabin has 1-2 high schoolers who will be with them at all time. Teachers and camp staff are on site at all times.
All meals are provided by Camp Kern. Dietary restrictions and food allergies will be accommodated based on the information provided on medical forms. There is always one main meal, but alternate options are provided if your child is picky. There is always a fruit, yogurt and cereal bar with breakfast, as well as a soup and salad bar with lunch.
No. To help keep cabins clean and to avoid attracting animals or bugs, students are not permitted to bring food or snacks into the cabins. All meals and snacks will be provided by Camp Kern, and students will have plenty to eat throughout the day.
We usually get back to school around 1:00/1:30 but we will communicate our return time through the Facebook page and will update families if there are any delays on the day we return.
Students do not have to return to class once we returned. They may be picked up by a parent. If your child is going to ride home with somebody besides a parent, we do need written permission.
