Sixth Grade Expectations
2024-2025
Dear Parent/Guardian:
We are looking forward to a great year of learning with your children. The following is a list of the 6th grade expectations that will help us facilitate your child’s learning. Please review the following information with your child and sign the Parent Student Acknowledgement Form found at the end of this document. Return the form to your child’s homeroom teacher no later than 8/14/2023.
AGENDAS
Student Responsibility:
Students will record all homework assignments, unfinished class work that needs to be completed as homework, and upcoming tests/project dates in their agendas.
Agendas should be signed by parents daily on Friday,They be checked on Monday students will earn $5.00 mini economy money if signed..
If a student loses an agenda she/he may purchase a replacement for $5.00 from the office.
.
Parent Responsibility:
Please check your child’s agenda nightly so you are aware of all homework assignments, unfinished class work that needs to be completed as homework, and upcoming tests/project dates.
If your child’s agenda is blank, then they are not doing their job as a student and utilizing their agenda correctly. Homework is written on the agenda boards during study hall daily and time is provided for students to write information in their agendas.
Remind texts sent out are not a replacement for students writing homework in agendas as Remind messages are not sent for regular homework assignments—only for occasional reminders.
ASSIGNMENTS HEADINGS
Unless otherwise noted in a teacher’s specific directions, the following heading should be placed in the upper right hand corner on all assignments that will be turned in to any sixth grade teacher:
Upper right corner First Name and Last Name JOHN WAYNE
Under name - Student number example W-22, R-22 or V-22
This is the last initial of your child’s homeroom teacher and their student number.
STUDENT ABSENCES
Upon returning from any absence, it is each student’s responsibility to obtain class work and homework, as well as arrange any test make ups with each of their teachers. If the student is absent for 2 days they will have 2 days to make up their work.
GRADING PRACTICES
All class work and homework should be completed in a timely manner. Late work may be accepted at the teacher’s discretion.
Quarterly Assignment guidelines for full credit on Homework assignments:
Students will have 3 days to turn in late homework.
If a student is missing assignments by the due date an “Incomplete” (I) will be indicated on their progress reports. HARMONY will also provide a record of missing/late assignments.
Students may not opt-out of assignments, projects, or assessments. Any missing projects, assignments, homework or assessments may receive a score of zero after being 3 days late according to the above Quarterly Assignment guidelines.
Test retakes will be up to teacher discretion.
Practice is essential to learning. If a student is missing or has not completed more than 2 assignments, the students will be expected to stay for the after school “study table’ from 3:15-4:00 as an “opportunity” to complete all late work.
HARMONY
Teachers typically update Harmony on a weekly basis. This powerful resource allows parents and students to have up-to-the minute information on student performance and progress toward mastery of standards. Check Harmony regularly to make sure your child is staying current with all assignments by visiting Harmony and entering your student's access code.
Both parents and students may obtain an access code by calling the Elementary office. Teachers are not able to give out access codes.
MINI-ECONOMY
Mini-Economy represents a structured behavior program designed for students. Each teacher/administrator has the right to use his/her professional judgment to modify this plan for individual students as needed. Fines and Earnings may be given by any staff member to a student throughout the day to help encourage positive behavioral choices.
Each student will receive Mini Economy Cash at the beginning of every week and is expected to keep their money in their pencil pouch possession during the school day.
Teachers will reward the students $500.00 per week based on the following behavior: Organized Desk, positive behavior, effort in his/her academics.
Teachers may also fine the students $50.00 based on the following behavior - Neglecting Job duties, Missing or Late Homework, Poor Behavior Choices, Misuse of Electronics, Not being prepared for school each day and Misplacing or borrowing supplies.
Teachers will use the checklists when completing the student conduct portion of the quarterly report cards.
6th Grade Steps in Encouraging Positive Behavior
Students that go above and beyond will be rewarded $25.00 per pride ticket. Students will also earn $25.00 for going above and beyond in their effort in academics; this will be based on teacher discretion.
Every 2 weeks reward celebrations will be given to those students who consistently show pride and continue to have homework turned in on time as well as have no behavior concerns. Students will be asked for a certain amount of money to be earned by a specific date and will be rewarded if they have that amount of money in their pencil pouch. (The rewards given will be changed throughout the school year.)
Quarterly Reward Celebrations: We would like to reward all 6th grade students at the end of each quarter who have received $4,000 or more, and having had no on-campus or off-campus suspensions. Students who meet the criteria will be able to attend a Quarterly Reward Celebration. Students who do not meet the criteria will complete an assignment during the quarterly reward celebration time that requires them to reflect on ways they can meet the criteria to participate in the next Quarterly Celebration.
Verbal Warnings: If a student displays an infraction of the character traits, then they may receive a verbal warning. If a verbal warning is given, the teacher may issue a fine to remind them their behavior is not appropriate for the learning environment.
Infractions: Infractions may be given after a verbal warning if the behavior continues. Immediate infractions (without prior verbal warning) may be given if the severity or repetition of behavior warrants.
Office Referral: Physical or verbal aggression, theft, vandalism, threatening acts, fighting, or any infractions listed in the Triton Elementary Handbook (which can be found on the Triton Elementary website) will warrant immediate consequences in the form of an office referral or teacher issued in school suspension. The teacher may also choose to write an office referral for repeated minor infractions when other disciplinary practices have not been effective.
COMMUNICATION
The sixth grade team uses e-mail, websites, and remind to communicate with parents. We will use your email information that has been recorded in the office for email communication. Please make sure to update the information sheet with your correct email. Information on signing up for Remind will be provided to you from each homeroom teacher.
If you need to contact us, please send an email or call our classroom phone. Email is a more efficient way to contact teachers. We are looking forward to partnering with you to provide your child with an exciting year of learning. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
