Director’s Philosophy
The purpose of these productions is to provide an educational theatrical experience. Students will improve their singing, acting, and overall expression through the rehearsal and performance process. We want this to be a positive, enriching, and joyful experience for all.
Rehearsal Times
Not every actor will be required to attend every rehearsal. Students are responsible for checking the schedule to find out when they need to attend rehearsal. Schedules will be posted on Remind and on the Google Calendar page.
All weekday rehearsals will take place immediately after school. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, all students scheduled to be at rehearsal are expected to remain there for the entire time.
We understand that everyone’s time is important, so we will work as efficiently as possible. However, please know that the week of the show (“Tech Week”) will likely consist of later night rehearsals and long hours for everyone involved in the production. Please be sure you and your parents understand this before you audition for the show.
Rehearsal Attendance and Conflicts
Musicals require strong commitment. Please provide the production staff with conflicts to the best of your ability. We will use these conflicts to build an appropriate rehearsal schedule. Having conflicts will not necessarily keep you from being a part of the production.
Your attendance is important. Because of this, you may miss no more than four (4) rehearsals. We understand that extenuating circumstances may arise, and accommodations will be made. Note: you must contact Mr. or Mrs. Helinski directly. Please do not rely on another person to deliver a message for you. Please notify Mr. or Mrs. Helinski as soon as you know the conflict, preferably more than 24 hours before the rehearsal.
Rehearsal Behavior
Misconduct at rehearsals will not be tolerated. This includes disrespect for a member of the staff or cast, destruction of props, horse-play, leaving the rehearsal area without permission and removal of items from the theater without permission. Any misconduct will result in dismissal from the production.
Students are asked to dress comfortably and bring their scripts and a pencil to make notes at every rehearsal. While we do the best we can to only call students to rehearsal when they are needed, sometimes things will not go as planned. Therefore, it is important that actors are prepared to use their down time wisely. We suggest working on memorization of music, lines, or choreography.
Please refrain from use of cellphones at rehearsals.
Rehearsal Change & Cast/Crew Communication
Every effort will be made to give plenty of notice of changes to the rehearsal schedule. In the rare event of a change or cancellation, a Remind message will be sent out.
School Cancellations and Bad Weather Policy
If school is canceled or dismissed early because of weather conditions or other emergencies, rehearsal will be canceled and made up later. If a Saturday rehearsal must be canceled, you will be notified by Remind.
Evening Rehearsals
The Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the week of the show are also commonly referred to as “Tech Week.” These are dress rehearsals, which will combine all the technical aspects of the show with the work of the cast. These rehearsals will begin at 5 PM.
Script Memorization
It is expected that all students learn, practice and memorize all of their lines, songs and choreography by the dates assigned. Please start learning lines and music right away.
