During Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade Physical Education, students will focus on moving within general and personal space, and then progress to focus on objects such as equipment. Lesson segments will be repeated when appropriate. Students will be given time to move in their own expressive and creative ways and explore with equipment while being given creative challenges and movement prompts. Experiences will include opportunities for students to feel the joy that results from having the ability and freedom to explore, discover, and express themselves through movement.
As students progress, movement skills will include a variety of movement concepts such as directions, speeds, levels, and pathways. Proper form and technique for skills such as throwing, catching, kicking, and striking will be taught and practiced. Students will explore movement patterns with a partner to define movement in relation to another person, shape, or group. Partners will change frequently and when applicable, students will have the opportunity to make up their own rules as they play together.
**Students must have a pair of athletic shoes to keep at school to wear for PE and indoor recess.**
