A Attendance: Preschool core academic hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15am-11:15am. Daily attendance is part of a healthy routine. Parents can prepare children for a lifetime of success by making school a priority and ensuring their child is in attendance and on time. In the event of an absence, please email or send a ProCare message.
The Preschool classroom opens at 8:00am. If you are arriving before 8:00am, please walk your child to before school care and sign-in. Staff will walk your child to class at 8:00am.
B Birthdays: We love celebrating birthdays at school! You are welcome to bring in treats for your child's special day! 🥳
C Communication: Communication is essential! Please do not hesitate to reach out! Email (wojtczaka@trinitycr.org) is best as I can respond more thoroughly. ProCare can be used for short, quick messages. Please understand that we are teaching and engaging with students throughout the day, so be patient with responses. We will be using ProCare to send pictures throughout the year. 💻
D Dismissal and Dress Code: Part-Day students are dismissed at 11:15am daily. On Trinity Early-Out days, full-day students are dismissed at 12:00pm. No care is offered on Early-Out days and no lunch is served. These afternoons are required for teacher training.
Preschool follows the Trinity dress code. Blue, white, or gold polo shirt or dress and khaki or navy blue pants. Please see the Trinity website for more specific information on dress code.
E Excitement: Preschool is fun and exciting! We will build foundational skills and we will learn just how much we are loved by Christ!
F Food: We serve a healthy morning snack to all preschoolers around 9:00am. Please make sure your child eats breakfast before school. 🥣
Full-Day students will go down to the cafeteria for lunch at 11:30am and enjoy a snack from home in the afternoon around 2:30pm. Students may pack a cold lunch or eat school lunch. Lunch fees may be paid in the school office. We will take lunch count each morning.
G Goals: In Preschool, we focus on social and emotional learning as well as academic progress. We will discuss goals at conferences in the fall. Parent input is always appreciated. We use a growth mindset and positive behavior management to achieve new skills and strengthen existing ones.
One of my goals is to create a positive classroom environment in which students are challenged to explore, where confidence is boosted, and all students feel loved and valued.
H Homework: Enrichment activities or ideas for family involvement may be sent home at different times throughout the year. Reading to children daily is extremely beneficial in so many ways. 📚
I Independence: Four-year-olds are so capable! Parents can support independence by providing opportunities to practice zipping, buttoning, tying, dressing, pouring, opening a lunch box, etc. as well as encouraging their child to try new things.
J Just in case: Please keep all contact information up to date throughout the school year, just in case we need to make contact. Make sure emergency contacts are up to date as well. Anyone picking up a student must be listed in ProCare.
K Kindness: We spread kindness. We demonstrate the love of Christ in all we say and do not only at school but outside of school as well. ❤️
L Learning: We will learn so much this year. Sometimes we will bring items home to share, however, much of our learning will be hands-on experiences and cooperative learning, which is kept in our heart and mind! Preschoolers learn by being active and using all of their senses to engage with the environment.
M Music: In Preschool, we perform a Christmas musical in December! We love putting on a show for our loved ones! We include music and movement throughout our daily activities and even have music class! 🎶
N News: Our classroom newsletter is sent home via email every Friday. Please look over it to understand what we are doing in class as well as document important dates. Talk to your child about what they are learning at school. 📰
O Objects: Please do not bring toys to school. They will not be allowed in the classroom. There may be special days in which students can bring in objects from home. You will be notified of those days ahead of time.
Full-Day students may bring one small stuffed animal (no noise or lights) and must have a nap mat (child sized sleeping bag) for quiet time such as this: Nap Mat. Please make sure to wash nap mat and stuffed animal weekly.
P Patience: Thank you for your patience throughout the year!
Q Quarrel: Preschoolers are developing friendship skills. Teachers will model and encourage Christian decision-making and problem solving skills. This includes discussing and teaching in the moment, praying for each other, and asking for and accepting forgiveness, just as Jesus forgives us.
R Recess: We will go outside at least once in the morning for 30-45 minutes. Students will participate in games and activities, free play, run, jump, and climb! We utilize a weather chart to ensure safety. Please be sure your child is dressed for the weather. ☀️ ☁️ ❄️
We will apply sunscreen August-September and April-May.
S Service projects: We will participate in several community service projects throughout the year. These activities will help us to be active members in our community, bless our community, and share Jesus! ✞
T Teachers: We are blessed with an amazing team at Trinity! Each week, we visit the librarian for a read aloud and we get to check out a book. We also visit the pastor at church for early childhood chapel, the art teacher, PE teacher, and the music teacher! Preschoolers have the opportunity to get to know many different teachers and school staff, who model and challenge students to use the gifts and talents that God gave them.
U Under the weather: If your child is not feeling well or if they have had a fever/vomiting/diarrhea in the last 24 hours, please keep them home to rest. Diagnoses should be communicated promptly in order to inform other families. We work hard to keep our classroom clean and limit germs as much as we can! You can help with this by encouraging proper hand washing and keeping your child home when they are sick. If a student cannot actively participate in the classroom due to not feeling well, parents will be contacted to pick-up for the day. 🤒
V Volunteers: We truly appreciate volunteers and we love seeing families come together in fellowship. There are a variety of opportunities to volunteer throughout the year within the classroom, school, and church.
W Weather: Trinity Lutheran School-Cedar Rapids, will post delays and cancellations on the local news stations and families will receive a notification via Procare. We do not follow the public school system. If Trinity has a 2 hour delay, Preschool is canceled for that day and care will be provided for Full-Day students beginning at 10:15am.
X eXtra Clothes: Please send an extra pair of socks, underwear, uniform pants, and polo shirt for your child. Extra clothing should be kept at the top of the locker in a labeled ziploc bag. Make sure to check often as preschoolers grow quickly and seasons change. 👕 🩳
Y Yummy: We will create some fun food experiences in our classroom!
Z ZZZZZZ’s: A good night's sleep is extremely important. Rest and down time has a huge impact on a child’s day. The first few weeks of school may be especially tiring for children as they get used to a new routine. 😴
