Year 12

Year Overview

This year, the course requires that you undertake two units. One controlled assessment (unit 1) and one exam (unit 2). In both units you will be learning new material, but in unit 2, you can be asked about any of the content covered in unit 1 - they call this 'synoptic'.

You will be asked to design your own campaign for the controlled assessment, amongst several other tasks. For the exam, you will be tested on several different criminological approaches and theories.

The lessons for this course vary, from teacher led, to group work, to student led lessons.

Units

Your first controlled assessment unit. This part of the course involves you learning about different types of crime, researching different case studies and applying them to different situations and contexts.

You will then look further into the campaigning process whereby new laws and policies are created to raise awareness for under-reported crimes.

Your first exam unit. This unit has you exploring several varieties of Criminological theories, drawing on Sociology, Psychology, Law and Politics to ensure you leave with a rounded understanding of the deeper meanings behind Criminological thought.
