Bioanalysis

Exogenous agents may trigger or modulate the biochemical mechanisms and metabolic pathways. Martic lab is trying to develop novel optical and electrochemical methods with applications in toxicology, with the focus on environmental and forensic toxicology. Students will gain experience in a variety of analytical methodologies., including mass spectrometry (LSPR, electrochemistry, GC-MS, ESI-MS, ICP-MS, etc.)

Forensic Chemistry

Projects in collaboration with forensic science organizations include physical and chemical trace evidence, such as gunshot residue, paint, glass. Students will gain experience in  a lab setting with presumptive and confirmatory methods, as well as with datasets and libraries (outside of the lab setting).

Sustainable chemistry and materials

We are currently designing and developing new synthetic strategies for synthesis of various molecules of interest in a green and sustainable manner. To that end we are exploring electrochemical synthesis as an alternative to traditional organic synthesis. In addition, we tailor the nanomaterial synthesis and characterization towards functional materials with applications, such as sensors or energy-based platforms. Students will gain experience in synthesis, cahracterization of products, materials characterization, and electrochemistry, among other methods.

Biomolecules

Martic lab aims to discover new mechanisms of diseases, develop novel biosensors and identify viable therapeutics. Student projects include biochemistry and analytical chemistry of proteins, peptides, nucleic acids, metal ions, antioxidants, reactive oxygen species etc.
