TNGA Time
New! In response to student demand, Connect Trenton has organized the TNGA Time series. TNGA Time is drop-in, student-led time to talk. No more teachers, no more homework, just space to talk about what's important to you. (Students are reminded to attend 1-on-1 or small group work as requested by teachers during this time.) During school closures due to COVID-19, TNGA Time is operating virtually and is integrated with TNGA's Google Classroom.
To join us, simply click on the links for TNGA Time in our Google Classroom, only available to TNGA students and staff. Topics include:
Mindset Mondays (every Monday school is in session at 1:10 pm): Discuss mental wellness, coping with stress, healing from depression and anxiety, practicing mindfulness, and how to feel just a little better.
Sports & Games Tuesdays (every Tuesday school is in session at 1:10 pm): Even in the off-season, talk about your favorite teams. Or if you'd rather play games like Fortnite or Among Us, we've got you covered.
LGBTQ+ Thursdays (every Thursday school is in session at 1:10 pm): Something other than straight and cisgender? No matter what, you've got a home here. Talk pride, challenges, and more with LGBTQ+ and allied peers.
Future Fridays (every Friday school is in session at 1:10 pm): What can ninth graders do to make a difference? How can we make our communities better? What is life like after high school? Let's talk about it!

Trenton Arts at Princeton
Through the TAP Saturday Morning Arts program, TNGA students can participate in one of three groups: Trenton Youth Dancers, Orchestra, or Theater. Rehearsals take place every Saturday, 10:00am - 12:30pm.
Trenton Youth Dancers (TYD) is a co-curricular dance program for Trenton high school students. The mission of TYD is to educate Trenton students in a wide variety of dance styles so that they are equipped to develop their own choreography. During weekly rehearsals, TYD members participate in guest workshops led by Princeton student dance groups, as well as group choreography workshops.
Trenton Youth Orchestra (TYO) is a string orchestra for Trenton high school students. During weekly rehearsals, TYO members work with their Princeton student coaches to hone their string technique, enrich their musicianship, and develop an understanding of the many nuances of collaborative performance. TYO members also receive free weekly private lessons from Princeton student volunteers. To participate in TYO, you must be enrolled in the TCHS Orchestra.
Trenton Youth Theater (TYT) is a co-curricular theater program for Trenton high school students. Inspired by Princeton’s holistic approach to theater, TYT students are exposed to all aspects of theater-making. During weekly rehearsals, TYT members participate in workshops that cover playwriting, acting, production design, stage management, and more.

Trenton Health Team's All Kids Thrive Program
Trenton Public Schools and the Trenton Health Team are partnering to bring free services to students who are missing school because of health issues. By working together, these two groups will identify students who could benefit from services designed to address possible health-related contributors to their absenteeism. Once identified, students and guardians will be asked to consent to receive services through the program, which is entirely optional.
During school closures due to COVID-19, Trenton Health Team's All Kids Thrive Program is continuing to provide services. To learn more, visit Trenton Health Team's website. If you have health needs that would be helped by extra advocacy and support, you may be eligible for this program! Interested students can contact School Nurses Anne and Kathy through Google Classroom, by email at avizzard@trenton.k12.nj.us and kberlin@trenton.k12.nj.us, or by phone at (609) 656-4900, ext. 6006. Trenton Music Makers
The Trenton Music Makers Orchestra brings together young people from second grade through high school into one community orchestra. As part of the El Sistema movement in the United States, Trenton Music Makers use music as a platform for social change. Students from twelve different schools in Trenton meet 3-4 days per week after school, with a pre-orchestra program for second and third graders, orchestra for third grade through high school, and an advanced ensemble for our most dedicated players. Our students also work on their violin, viola, cello and bass skills in studio sectionals, develop their reading, improvisation and musicianship, learn bucket drumming, and choral singing, all the while building collaboration skills, peer leadership and learning the value of a shared struggle. They perform in public regularly, and join together twice per year with the member organizations of the El Sistema NJ Alliance, playing and celebrating together as an orchestra of over 250.
Orchestra members work with professional teaching artists, and they receive their own instrument for the year, to play in the program and take home to practice. Our diverse teaching artist team includes master teachers, freelance musicians, recent college graduates and music teachers hired from the local school district. Their various strengths are a winning combination – one that serves the children’s musical and social development in an unparalleled manner.
During school closures due to COVID-19, Trenton Music Makers is operating virtually on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 4:00-6:00 pm, with frequent breaks away from the screen. On Saturdays from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Trenton Music Makers also meet at the YMCA using mask and physical distancing precautions. To learn more, visit the Trenton Music Makers website and read the Orchestra Program Student Handbook. To apply for a limited seat, complete the online application.
