On this page you will see how to initially plan for a media project. You will see what documents you will need to have and understand before you can start designing and creating your vision.
Document provided to an advertising agency by and advertiser, containing information to be used as the basis for an advertising campaign, an advertisement or a communication activity.
The agency will then produce a creative brief, which is a document created through initial meetings, interviews, readings and discussions between a client and designer before any work begins.
On the right is an example of a Client Brief.
As you can see they are used to outline the basic needs and wants of a project from the client to the designer/developer.
There is a certain amount of information that has been included that any good designer/developer needs to see such as:
Project details: First things first we can see the details of the main project. We can start to build a picture of the final project.
Target Audience: A target audience is the intended audience or readership of a publication, advertisement, or other message catered specifically to said the intended audience. (Age and Gender are good examples)
The Specification: A design specification is a detailed document providing a list of points regarding a product or process. Looking at the example on the left we have a clear list of needs and wants such as, shots of the footwear and video length.
A Spider Diagram or Mind Map is a diagram used to visually organize information. A mind map is hierarchical and shows relationships among pieces of the whole.
A good task to do to practice making Mind Maps is to watch your favorite movie and create a Mind Map on it.
You could look at all the relationships between the characters or locations or items.
