This is a DLUHC Local Digital funded project investigating how data and technology standards could enable better housing services for residents.
We are building on previous research exploring barriers preventing housing services from accessing effective technology. That work identified common approaches to data as a key driver that would improve housing services’ choice and flexibility in the tools they use and how they use data.
We aim to identify potential data standards and common processes that could improve the way technology systems work together and how data can be extracted and used by housing services. This would allow housing services to use data more effectively across the service to deliver safe homes and great resident outcomes.
We think we can define minimal, high value central government interventions to improve data flows in housing services and shift the market in favour of more flexible and interoperable technology.
Initially we will look for opportunities across the following two housing service areas:
‘Find a home’: Initially this includes both getting temporary accommodation and permanent accommodation, and we will then choose one of these areas to focus on
‘Fix something in my home’, looking at responsive repairs within properties
As part of this work we will also be investigating the role DLUHC can play in supporting local authorities to adopt these standards.
