Future Housing Tech Coalition

Collaborating to improve the data and technology that power social housing services.

Many Local Authorities and Housing Associations rely on out-of-date and unsupported housing management systems to manage their housing stock, and ensure that everyone who needs one has well-maintained, safe home.

Who we are

We are a collection of public, private and third sector organisations eager to share best practice and build the common, open, technology standards, products and services needed to ensure social housing services are future-ready.

What's happened so far?

In 2023, we did a discovery project to investigate why many housing providers experience "vendor lock-in" and are unable to move technology supplier.

It found that there were broadly 3 'intervention themes' that would return the most value in breaking vendor lock-in:

Based on these insights, DLUHC has commissioned 2 projects, one exploring high value interventions to improve data flows in housing services and shift the market in favour of more flexible and interoperable technology, and the other exploring the procurement of technology systems for housing services to identify opportunities to ensure technology meets the needs of Local Authorities and residents.
